they did it on myth busters they put a hair dryer in a bathtub and messured the volts and they said it it could kill someone if they drop it in the tub'

Not everyone will die of course, but it's definitely one of those things that kill most people. I'm sure it depends on how long you are in the water, how large of a body of water you're in, the amount of amps of electricity, how quickly you are pulled out, if medical attention immediate etc...

It has to reach a certain ampage, and most electrical outlets and devices have a trip switch to prevent electrocution. You would at least be very uncomfortable if they did not have the device, though.
