In my view guns don't kill. It is the people who do kill with guns. Likewise I see the Bible as an innocent Book that has its own story and its own purpose. However I also see in my view too many teachers and preachers with diverse opinions as to what it say and how it is to be understood. Is it these individuals who are really the ones who give the Bible a bad name?

Yeah, you're right. Though the Bible has one, concrete interpretation, there have, unfortunately, also been other people throughout history who have only used it as justification for an easier form of Christianity, or to commit atrocities. This is seen in the Catholic Church's Inquisitions, the fact that they have blamed the Jews for unreasonable things such as the Black Plague and poverty, and the murder and immolation of thousands of innocent souls. It is also reflected in Anne Hutchinson's view of antinomialism, which says that true salvation means that one doesn't have to obey the law. The Bible, however, does NOT say that: rather, it says that the law must be obeyed. That is another example of a person using the Bible in the wrong way and not gaining a true understanding of it.
In short, the Bible is an excellent book, but, in the wrong hands, it is used to justify evil things.

That's an interesting question. It points out that if the Bible is isolated from the living tradition within the Christian community (the same one that discerned which books belonged in the Bible - both Old Testament and New Testament), then it is possible to go askew in it's meaning. The result today is that there are over 10,000 different denominations with differences in beliefs, some very subtle, others very big. But there is only one truth out there, and it must have unity, it must be holy, universal and apostolic.

I took my son out of CCD classes because our teachers were given the children wrong info. They also put in this new age crap, liek meditation and "finding God'. We pray, not meditate and we don't have to find God, he is always with us. I agree that many teachers that talk of the bible are putting their own personal interpretations into it's true meaning. People are reading between the lines, so to speak. It there are verses that they don't like they omit them. It's really sad. I teach my son at home now and I study what I am going to discuss with him so i know for sure that it is exactly what the Church says.

I find the reading the bible is a lot of work. I am learning ancient Hebrew and Latin and Greek so I can compare the ancient bible to today's English translation. Many Christian bibles are wrong also. The writers of 100-200 yrs ago rewrote things to fit their own lifestyle and thinking. It's a tough topic but definitely worth looking into if you want the Truth.

There are allot of different religions under the banner of Christianity that have there own agendas. When you look at Catholic, Mormon, Jehovah Witnesses, and a others, these are more cults than religions. The difference between a so called Christian Cult and true Christianity is what follow and believe. True Christians take the Bible as the inerrant, infallible word of God.

The Christians cults that I mentioned have their own books and traditions which they put ahead of the Bible. Catholics say they follow the Bible plus the Apocrypha Books plus Catholic tradition. Mormons have the book of Mormon which they follow. Jehova Witnesses have their own corrupted version of the Bible.

In these cults, Satan has a strong foothold, as is blinding everyone to the truth. The way you can tell if some religious body is a cult, if they have any teaching other than the Bible.

Jesus spoke, through the Bible..neither a follower, nor a leader be.
Do not judge lest you be judged.
we are all different said my dad, your thoughts don't have to be the same.. you have rights, I have rights.
let me ask as well..this God who scripture says,,wins every battle knows the past, present and future, always prospers..I'd guess, knows all the winning lottery numbers, all the best stocks and all the precious goldmines etc. Why do his people ask for money from everyone?..my Dad would be embarrassed if I did that.
He was only a working man but he was our provider.
God is their father, so they should ask God, it says in the Bible- money is the answer to everything.. and all scripture says God always wins..and honour your father and mother..maybe they lack honour.

I don't see the Bible having a bad name . Any one can bend its truths for there own benefit. The best thing you can do is read it yourself and/or find a good teacher.

“Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, **which the ignorant and unstable people distort**, as *they do other scriptures*, *to their own destruction*.” (2 Peter 3: 15-16) NIV

This is why the Magesterium through Apostolic Succession exists. What you are describing is a malady that afflicts the Protestant denominations all wanting to interpret scripture to their own wants. I agree, it is a sad state. Even Peter in the New Testament tried to warn against it.

A gun does not tell you to kill anyone. The Bible however tells you to kill all infidels (non-Christians) in Acts 3:23.

Man is guilty of diluting the word of God and changing it to conform to their personal beliefs and lifestyles. They will pay for it in the end....

Revelation 22:18-19 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

The Bible is a collection of oft contradictory writings compiled over 1000 years. No-one can properly interpret it, because it was not written to be a cohesive work, and it isn't one.
