I have heard that ADD meds cah help you concentrate. I have severe Adult ADD. Trying for 2nd time to get education and am remembering the terrible time I had trying to concentrate while reading as a youth.

Now that you are older and have more self control, you can eat a balanced diet which will help you some. There some supplements that can be helpful, B vitamins, herbs etc. There are some over the counter focus supplements that help feed your brain. Try the cheap way, give your brain what it needs. After you have tried it for a couple of weeks, if you are still having trouble concentrating/focusing, then try a doctor.

It really doesn't matter a whole lot what we say here because a doctor or psychologist is going to prescribe to you what he thinks is best for you (or what drug company he is affiliated with, but that's a different topic) regardless of what you say you think will work the best. But I will share with you my experience with A.D.D medicines anyway. When I was first diagnosed my doctor wanted to try a non-stimulant called Strattera. I don't know exactly what it does neurologically but I do know that it did absolutely nothing for me. The only thing I felt from it was dizziness. After that we tried Concerta, which is basically just a longer lasting, time released Ritalin. Concerta is a Methylphenidate which is a dopamine re-uptake inhibitor. This means that it makes your brain absorb dopamine better. It is believed that more dopamine can cause more concentration. Again with this one, I felt absolutely no positive effects of it. I did although become very depressed, which supposedly can be a side effect. Most Methylphenidates though are prescribed to children, something like 75%, it's on Wikipedia. The final drug I tried was Adderall. To be completely honest It was the generic version of it, which is an just amphetamine. I am sure you have heard of amphetamines like "meth" and "MDMA" but don't get to alarmed or excited, adderall basically just stimulates the brain into being motivated and makes things that would normally be boring, more interesting. It also increases concentration, among other things. I have been on adderall for over a year now and I love it. As long as it isn't abused, the drug works like a charm. The only downside to it is that it is a schedule 2 drug under the DEA scheduling system. This makes it a little more difficult to get. Interestingly enough Aderrall falls into the same category as cocaine, methamphetamine, PCP, and opium derivatives. Hope this helps, I know it is biased but hey, what isn't?

Speak with your doctor about Straterra. It is in the antidepressant family, but has shown amazing successes in adults with add. I took it for awhile and, for the first time in my life, was able to keep track of my keys (lol). The only side effect that really got to me was a severly dry mouth. The "Aqua drops" that wrigley's makes helped with that symptom when absolutely nothing else did.

The most prescribed ones are Strattera, a non-stimulant, and Adderall, a stimulant, as well as Ritalin, a stimulant also.
Sometimes some antidepressants have this effect, also, such as the new drug, Cymbalta, which can help you concentrate.
It's just up to your doctor and you which ones to try. Often it is a process of trial and error and elimination.

I think you can get some info from the site below. there is all kinds of links and stuff. I have it too but I use other techniques to maintain as much as possible. Such as my diet and sleeping habits as well as natural remedies. The meds just made me feel bad and I could not take them.

Yup, I take Concerta and it works wonders. The hard part is finding a dose that works for you.

if you have severe ADD why have you not been prescribed medication for it already ask your GP for reasons as to why you have not been given any yet.
