There are several different options depending on what needs your child has and how severe the mental handicap is.
Behavior modification focoses on behavior that are negative and positive and uses rewards and modeling, as well as social stories and roleplaying/acting out to help teach the child desired behaviors. Usually self destructive or harmful behaviors are dicouraged by withdrawing a priveledge idmediately.

Learning disabilities are in different areas and will need different techniques to addresss them. In a public school the special resources teacher pretty is the panacea for everything,
if the child is able to be mainstreamed. The special ed teacher in a self contained classroom is the other public school option..

The key is to know your child weaknessness and strengths and be prepared to fight for every resource the federal government says is available for your child. The public schools are not very forth coming or helpful.

There are Occupational Therapists. Physical therapists. Speech Therapists. There are also special modifications in the classrooms as well as special equipment that can help.

you can also request your child have a "shadow" - an assistant who helps your child through the day. This is especially helpful for children who are prone to wander off in the middle of class or easily distracted or needs significant help with materials or guidance for each aspect of the day.

Remember that there are also organisations in your area who provide mentors free of charge - parents with children who have special needs similiar to your and and who are veterans of the system. they are able to help you negotiate the system and get your child the best possible IEP (Individual Education Plan)

All states are now required to have a program which provides a liasion between the parent and the chool and helps edcate the parent as to what is available to them and their rights. Unfortunately, this information is sometimes difficult to find. You will probably not get it from the public schools. It is most likely to be available from the organisations associated with the disability your child has. For example, my child has Aspergers. So I go through the Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders Organisation here in SC. From there, I was helped with getting a mentor, getting contacts, information, and assisted when I had to file a complaint to the state about being denied services for my daughter.

If you have a child with special needs, be sure to document everything. Always bring someone along who is an impartial witness for your side (such as a mentor), and never sign anything you are not comfortable signing. Never sign anything under duress.

The United international locations convention on the Rights of the youngster, Article 38, (1989) proclaimed: "State events shall take all achievable measures to substantiate that persons who have not attained the age of 15 years do no longer take a right away section in hostilities." remember, Quaranic coaching as interpreted by ability of Islamic fundamentalists is that that is larger to die in jihad, or holy war, than no longer. i'm happy to enable them to blow one yet another up & deliver them on their thank you to the hands of Allah + seventy two virgins, although that is thoroughly incorrect to coach and incite infants under the age of majority to do those issues. So, the place is the outcry from the UN, the u . s . and Europe? Why are not the Islamists being denounced for those atrocities against their very own human beings? the whole modern hysteria that is professional-Islamists & anti-Israel is sought after. that could be a reaction, as in pre-war Germany, to deflect interest remote from the failing economies brought about by ability of damaging government administration to what's seen as an elementary scapegoat. interior the previous it worked, if for a quick time. Then we Jews have been a scared u . s .. Now, considering that reclaiming that which become stolen from us by ability of the Romans, the Babylonians, the Ottamans & the Muslims we've recovered our Lands and we're not from now on scared.
