The prophet?
A prophet (derived from prophetes in Greek) is one that delivers God's message. In modern times, this means one that teaches the scriptures properly.
1Co 13:8 Love never fails. But prophecy will pass away. Speaking in languages that had not been known before will end. And knowledge will pass away. 9 What we know now is not complete. What we prophesy now is not perfect. 10 But when what is perfect comes, the things that are not perfect will pass away.
"Perfect" is telios, meaning mature, complete, or perfect. Here it refers to the complete body of scripture. The "spiritual gifts" were intended to confirm the message before the scriptures became available.

which one of the true prophets, they usually wandered around in the desert sun without water eating locusts (bugs) and having visions. They often wandered into small towns deliriously describing visions and devils. The only reason I can think of for treating them as special and having disciples follow and look after them is that insane asylums had not been invented.

1 Corinthians 14:3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort.
A true prophet will never contradict the written Word of God. If he makes a prediction it will come true. He will glorify Christ and not himself.
