I think it costs a lot less than she may think. My daughter wanted to strip the black dye from her hair and I seem to recall it was a lot cheaper at the salon than I had expected. I remember the orange dye job -- trying to be a blond like my brother. I waited it out when I was a teen. That was ridiculous looking. Then it got brassy looking. Yikes.

Okay ORANGE is a 'process' color and YES you need a professional for this one. If you dye over that color you made get a worse color. Sorry.

In my lifetime I have had green, blue and orange hair "not on purpose". I actually decided to get the education so that I can "do" it myself and know what professionals are doing.

My hair is silver now and that changes the chemical process as well. I actually use a blue to make my hair look better. Lucky me!

actually, you may as well go to a professional because by the time she spends the money and time going to the store, deciding, and applying, she'll most likely have to go back to the store and buy something else. but if you think its cheaper, i would get a demi, or semi permanant color that has no peroxide, only a deposit only color in it. she also may want to get a color that has a blue, or purple base to it to contradict the orange. remember your color wheel in middle school! that will made it a nice shade of neutral brown, or what ever you choose just remember that a 'glaze' only deposits only, not lifts color. she probably would want to go that way because depending on how many times she has died her hair, it is really porus, and needs not to have peroxoide to open her cuticle layer, you want to saver what she has, most deposit only hair color has alot of oils and such to help keep the hair shaft healthy.

What is her natural hair color and what color was she trying to dye it?

I've been dying my hair for several years, several different colors.. And in the beginning, I had the same problem at times.

She needs to get a darker color... Medium or dark brown (don't use ANYTHING with red in it)... Trying to dye it blond will only make it worse.

Once she gets it a darker color... She can dye it again (Though I recommend waiting for a couple of days or so) to try and get it whatever color she wants... And she needs to get a shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair because if she doesn't, all of that hair dye will dry out her hair.

I recommend using Garnier Nutrisse (The kind with the fruit oil in it... It'll say that it comes with it on the box)... Or Herbal Essences hair dye.

Neither of them are very damaging to your hair... Stay away from the cheap stuff because it will dry her hair out after the first bottle.

No she can get it not only worse, cause she doesn't know what tone or color to use, but also she can damage it or fry it, a stylist can give her the result she needs ( not wants) cause once colored its hard to get the color you want.

if she does it herself she is only going to make it worse... it needs to be filled with a pigment and re-colored..... tell her to go to a stylist and they will help her
