I know some people are touchy when it comes to religion.

...sorry....I'm still stuck on the header to this question "Would it be considered to be "socially unacceptable" just because I want to get my daughters pregnant..."

You might want to consider the break in your questions a little better :P

If the parents are relgious then go for it. If they're not or you're not sure, then I would tend to go with something a little less controversial for a first present otherwise it's going to come across like you're trying to introduce YOUR religion and beliefs onto this new bubs.

Perhaps a new pair of baby Nikes would be the way to go...

No, it wouldn't be socially unacceptable IF it is something that is part of your lifestyle. If you have a bible in the house, or if you are a church goer, then that would be a natural and thoughtful thing to do. If you are an aethiest or an agnostic, it would be hypocritical.
It also depends on your daughter's room-mate. Do you know what her religion is? If she's Muslim, you may want to re-think giving her a Christian bible, even one meant for babies.

Some people are so anti-religion that they consider anything to do with religion offensive. It is not an offensive gift, but make sure it is something she (the mother) will appreciate and use before you get it. There is no reason to waste your time and money if the roommate is not a Christian. She would neither want nor appreciate the bible.

Personally I think that is a wonderful idea for a gift.

You need to be sure what her religion is first. If she's a Christian I guess it's not much of a problem, but if she's not then it's a bad idea to give the baby a bible.

Ask your daughter what she thinks and find out the roommate's religion.

No, it would not be "socially unacceptable" to get a Bible for the Baby, especially if you don't know what religion the mother is.

How do you know for sure the mother isn't Christian? Have you asked her?

What is "socially unacceptable" is the way people cry "foul" and start lawsuits everytime God is named in conversation.

As for myself, I do not believe God is a "socially unacceptable" belief.

Take a hard stance, stand up for what you believe in. and give the mother the Bible.

But, do you know what is "socially unacceptable?" People telling me that God doesn't exist.

Depends on how that person has reacted to religion in the past, if she obviouly hates religion then don't.
If the pregnant girl is unmarried throw in something else with the Bible a toy or something other wise it will look like you are saying "the bad mother needs religion to save her".

For those of you who say it would be perfectly acceptable, would it be socially acceptable for me to buy your children a Marilyn Manson CD? I mean, it's something I really enjoy (I own all of his CDs) and I find his music perfectly acceptable. I mean, it sounds to me like it would be acceptable because the mother *might* be a fan. Since I am such a fan, it would be a thoughful and caring thing to do.

Oh, but that's the problem. Not everyone is a fan of Marilyn Manson and would be very offended if I were to give one of his CDs to their child as a gift. I know you will say there is a difference, but I feel there is not. In my opinion, it is not acceptable to give something of that nature simply because it's something you happen to like. You have to consider the person's beliefs. If you find out that this person is christian, it's your call. Don't assume anything, though.

If you know them and they are religious I think it would be a nice gift. If you're not sure ask your daughter.
