There are two wires, a red one and a gold one. When the gold one was cut first into two pieces I attached them and the headphones worked again but when the red wire broke, I tried to reconnect them but they didn't work.

What you will need to do, is cut the exterior wire cover back about a 1/2 inch on both sides. Then, the same with the color wires. Then twist the 2 yellows together, do the same with the red. Then cover with electrical tape. MAKE SURE IT IS NOT PLUGGED into A SOURCE!
If this doesn't work, you will need to just buy a new one.
Good luck Hon!

If they are stereo headphones, there is a third conductor (left ear, right ear, and 'ground' shared between the two). In most cases that will be the braided shield surrounding the other two, just under the insulation. Peel back the insulation from both exposed ends and undo the braid far enough to twist into something you can work with. While you're at it double check your other repairs.
