I have a little girl who'll be three in oct. She is very intelligent and developmentally she is a year ahead in every way except potty training. I've tried everything I can think of. She still won't tell me when she needs to go. She'll go and then tell me. When I ask her she says she doesn't need to go. I make her sit on the potty anyway but usually she doesn't go. She started showing interest in potty training very early and I think maybe I pushed her to early. Diapers are very expensive and have another one on the way in Dec. so I would really like to get her out of them before the new baby arrives.

I had a similar problem. Get rid of the training diapers. Let her get the feeling of wetting herself (yes I know it's messy). That will help her get the idea she has to go or piss all over herself. Once I did that, took my little girl less than a week to use the potty all the time.

Children are family too, this is the Family section. I babysat for this family for six years from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm daily, and when it came time to potty train the youngest, I had a big part of it. I asked the mother, how to handle it and she told me to take her to the potty with me and after I'd go sit her down and have her do the same thing. From a maternal point of view, sometimes visiual association is better training. Sometimes I would run the water for a little help. Potty training isn't the easiest thing to do but when done right, it's not too bad. My sister wasn't out of diapers until she was four though. Some kids train early and some are late bloomers. Having another one on the way too, you could use the, big sissies go potty here, trick too. Good Luck though!

Make her sit on the potty every 2 hours, have a candy jar and set it on the sink when she goes give her a candy. Only bring out the jar when she's on the potty

Just because you WANT her to be out of diapers before the new baby arrives doesn't mean she is READY to be out of diapers. It is not her problem that diapers are so expensive. Maybe YOU should have kept from getting pregnant again until she was out of diapers...

It is possible that you did push her too soon and it is also possible that she can't feel when she needs to go. You should take her to a doctor and make sure there is not an infection or other medical issue causing her to not train.

Make a chart on the fridge with squares and everytime she uses the potty she can have things like a special movie to watch, or a special book read to her, or some inexpensive stickers that you give her after every successful attempt. It works everytime. :-) Good luck.

Do your parents or in-laws live nearby? If so, let your daughter stay on weekends with them and have them give it a try. I did this with my son and he listened and took to the training much easier.
