It is also called silvadene cream. My boyfriend has a really bad 2nd or 3rd degree burn in the lower back right above the tailbone and the directions for the cream say apply small amount (1/16th inch thick) b.i.d.(twice daily), and he's saying the cream was burning ( I called the pharmacy but the pharmacist wasn't helpful). The problem is, one of the pads was stuck to his skin where the burn is and he soaked it in warm water (the doctor told him to) so the pad would come off without too much pain. I also cleaned it very well then put the cream on it, could I have possibly put too much on? He is saying that that it is burning with severe intensity (on a scale of 1-10 it's now probably a 6-7 but before I wiped some off it was at a 10+).

they gave me that when I had a 2nd degree sunburn and yeah it does burn I would put it on just for maybe an hour then go soak in a bath tub to get it off, tell him to put antibiotic ointment on it if it is a small area, also what helped me is a cold wet towel on my back (since thats where i was burned) they also make an aloe vera gel that helps

I burned my face very severely with hot, hot liquid and had potentially deep scarring areas all over the left side of my face. I was doing abit of work as a fashion model at the time and it was not a good thing at all. The silvadene cream worked wonders. I had to be very consistent about wearing it but, with it on I could do anything as if I were still ""normal". The pain from the burns however was intense and in the beginning, I had to take pain medication for that symptom of my injury. It sounds like the injury your boyfriend is experiencing is still very primary and acute. Shouldn't he get some assistance with that from his doctor? I feel that he is lucky to have you to help him with this. Good luck to you both. Please tell him to be patient with the healing. Today, I have no scars or marks at all....thanks to the silvadene.

eventually it is a very helpful cream, ask the doctor for some pain medicine, remember to clean the wound with soap and water soaked cloth when you change the dressing, little more than suggested cream will not harm. report any signs suggestive of infection to the doctor asap, good luck

i know its supposed to burn, i didnt realize it was that bad though. if he is taking other drugs, talk to the doc or pharmacist and see what kind of pain meds he can take. otherwise maybe just give him some tylenol or advil. make sure he keeps using the cream unless told otherwise, some pain now is better than a post burn pseudomonas infection later

It is safe for use on animals, including reptiles but if the burn is serious it may need a vet to look it over and perhaps prescribe antibiotics as well to avoid infection. All heat sources should be regulated with a thermostat.

I was told to use just a thin coating of the cream for my burn. ( Spilled boiling water on the top of my foot. yikes ) Good luck.

the pain is not surprising., especially on the type of wound you describe. But if the cream is not applied infections, possibly quite serious, may ensue.
