You can use any. It would probably be better to do it on cd-r or dvd-r based on how many pictures you have.

You would probably use a CD-R for your photos. (a CD holds about 700 MB) which is large enough.
And a DVD holds about 4.7 GB...which is a huge capacity, but perfect for backing up a whole collection of photos and other files.
Don't bother to use a re-writable CD (CD RW), unless you don't want to keep a copy of all your jpeg files (photos).
Personally, I would always backup all my photos...because once you delete them, they are gone forever.

Any kind. They are just jpeg files and can be saved to anything. Their size is usually several megs so a CD will hold a couple of hundred of them.

It doesn't matter a dvd can hold 4.7 gigs vr a cd can only hold 750mb i belive
