I know a book that can help and its a true story. It's actually 3 books by Dave Pelzer. The first book is called "A Child Called It", the second book is called "The Lost Boy" and the third is called "A Man Named Dave". These books I highly reccomend. It's about the authors life and how his life was wonderful until his mom went through a drastic change and began to abuse alcohol. His mom would beat him and tell him all these terrible things. The father was a coward to even help his child. He explains how he went from his home to foster care and how he battled through insecurities and changes of emotional, physical and phycholoigical abuse. I give it 10 fingers up!
Truly wonderful.

People react differently. I personally suffered extreme emotional abuse as a child and it affected my life very negatively. However I managed to finish university and do some post grad work but had severe issues of self esteem, amongst other things.

Look for information on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. PTSD is not only caused by physical or sexual abuse, but by emotional abuse, as well. Read a book called "Fruit of the Poisened Tree". You may find it on amazon.com or a book store. Good luck!

You could save yourself the trouble and tell this "adult" to stop wallowing in self-pity. Everyone had a bad childhood, why should theyt be any different. How about developing some coping skills? That might help...
