Yeah, you're right. Jesus was born in the so-called Middle East, in Bethlehem, and grew up in Nazareth, so it's more likely that Jesus was dark-skinned. It's because of the perception of whites at the time of Jesus. Since Europeans viewed all other races with contempt, they thought that their race was superior. As a consequence, they thought that, if Jesus was the Son of God, he should have been a member of the superior, Caucasian race. So, Jesus was depicted as blonde-haired and blue-eyed, while the Devil was depicted as a member of the most "lowly" race; he was given skin as black as night.
Thankfully, that myth is going away. People don't seem to be doint that anymore. Also, in Byzantine artwork, I think Jesus looks slightly darker (he has brown hair and brown eyes) than you would see in some Renaissance works. It doesn't matter, though. Some people want to be ignorant of the facts, even though the truth is so obvious. In the end, Jesus' complexion doesn't make much difference. What really matters is what he did: he died for our sins.

I agree! I don't understand how you can you call yourself Christian and paint Jesus your color when he wasn't then say you beleived this man was the son of God, and then come up with other reasons to hide the fact that you feel more comfortable pretending Jesus had white skin. Then white people use this irrational/messed up reverse psych like color doesn't matter which is why it doesn't matter that we refuse to paint him or make movies with his real color!

It doesn't really matter what skin color he was, and people have made him black in fine arts, back in mosaic pictures in the 1600's. I believe he was black, but I think he is painted white because the Romans depicted him as black. It was more of a cultural differences on how they would see him.

I was told jesus took the form of whatever people thought he looked like. But I thought he was an iraqui or iranian because that's where he was at and the garden of eden was found somewhere near there, that's what the show on the history channel said.

How the hell do YOU know? There is little to go on in the Bible regarding Jesus' description, and you weren't there. For all you know he could've been a snow white albino with blonde hair & pink eyes.

I agree - the delicate flower, pasty white Jesus just isn't historically correct. He was dark skinned and probably a big guy - he was a carpenter!

Depends on where you are. Travel the world and Jesus is painted as that location views him.

You're right, every painting I've ever seen of him he's light skin. What's up with that.

for the same reason many show him nailed through the hands.
a certain "image" was decided on in like the 1300's or 1600's or something and they stuck to it after that.

If you are going to make stuff up you can make your own rules.
Personally I worship the Asian Jesus. He wasn't very good at driving Donkies but he was great at math.
