Man has always had the tendency to bend things to his own needs. I,m sure religion is just another case in point. Over 2000 years have past sense the death of the one known as Jesus, and look at all the different divisions of faith there are in those who believe in him. All believing that they are the only true way. Now go back another 5000 years or so...
Man needs to believe in something grander than himself, or he would still be hiding from the unknown in caves. To believe in an ultimate deity is a good thing when it reflects the positive nature of mans potential. But as I have come to believe, that most of the written word of all religions have been colored or tainted by the author (knowingly or not) though the word may have been divine in inspiration, as time and translations and prejudice, the word has lost it meaning.
It is in fact the meaning or essence of the words that one should be looking for, they being to love not hate, to have compassion and understanding for others. Regardless of who they are, what they believe they are all brothers and sisters in the eyes of the Creator. We all came from the same source.
Lao Tzu was wise in recognizing this and many others who, at least for a moment, were able to look at 'the larger picture', have seen this as well. Perhaps this is what we are here to learn?

Yes, it is true. The problem is that when bonafide spiritual master, who knows the real meaning of religion comes before us and "clearly defines" the path of religion, we usually cannot accept it out of pride. We better trust our own mind. Therefore we remain in darkness. Only if we can get over our pride and hear from bonafide spiritual master submissively, we can become really religious and attain real knowledge.

I dont think the path is clearly defined at all.. There are so many different choices that we can and will make that all lead down totally different paths.. We just have to hope we chose the right one!

by just looking around me I have come to the conclusion that time and space as we know it as humans could not have come about on its own. they had to have been created by a higher being. the emotions I have and the acknowledgment of them is more powerful than any other explanation I can give. the feeling of right and wrong could not have evolved from a chaotic atmosphere. nothing works that way. I do not seek religion, only the truth

Ideological fogs of their own making...one of the "drawbacks" to free will and deep thought. I find the freedom of following my own path far more fulfilling than the "simplicity" of religion.

How refreshing! I definately agree and am happy to take a break from all the fine issues and focuse on the big picture. Isn't it ironic how humans fall victim to the doings of their own hands?

I think that can be true. We argue about things like doctrine or the color of the carpet. Or if jeans are ok. Instead of concentrating on what we are here to be doing.
