Sort of an etiquette question. What are some rules I need to know while playing "Hold em" in the casino. Beside the obvious!!!(I am a regular card player, just never in a casino. (I know no string betting, and all that jazz)

Each Casino has it's own house rules on etiquette. Ask one of the pit bosses or the dealer. They usually have a hand-out to explain the rule of the road.

I deal poker full time in Las Vegas and my number one pet peeve is when players splash the pot. I have to make sure that the bet going into the pot is right. I also hate it when people act out of turn or show their cards to other players or ask their friends advice. All of these things can and will kill your hand if you do them, but i still see it everyday of the week. Also talking on your cell phone while in a hand is not tolerated. A lot of my friends play a lot of on-line poker but not to much live action, so they have had some issues with their manors at the table sometimes.

i like sincity's answers...just want to add a little to it. Don't be afraid to ask the dealer for help whenever you need it. They'll gladly help you, so will some other players i'm sure. always know where the button is, so you know when it is your turn. Most beginners don't know when or how to raise..All you have to do is say Raise, then put your bet PLUS the raise all at once. Always place your chips within relative reach of the dealer...always tip your dealer after taking an average size pot. If it's tiny, then it's not necessary....and if the drinks are complimentary, it's always nice to tip the waitresses. PM me if you have any further questions...good luck!

Last time I was there I played at the Sands poker room, which is pretty small. They were very informal and FULL of FISH! I won $200 in about 45 minutes and then left. That was just $1/$2 NL!

If you want to try something informal and easy, that would be a very good start.

Just a personal opinion but I thought Atlantic City was a real dump - maybe wait and save a little longer and go to Vegas.
