My peripheral neuropathy was initially misdiagnosed as RLS. PN can be very painful, and progressive. I would recommend finding someone who will see you on a payment plan and make sure you are properly diagnosed first. Then, you need to be on some sort of therapy regimen. It's most likely only going to get worse if you let it go.

I don't know about the pain afterwards, but to ward off RLS, I suggest increasong your magnesium- if you can get a magnesium supplement and take it daily- also take it just at the onset of RLS this along with avoinding caffiene, especially in the evenings and cutting your sugar will help- I almost never have problems with RLS and a friend of mine has also had much relief with these remedies

the best part is these are natural things- if they don't wind up working for you for RLS - there are no negative side effects and it won't hurt you. I would bet that it will be helpful to you though

They have a new drug out that works! The Dr. may even have free samples. I'd go to a walk in clinic (usually around $75) and tell them you can only pay part of it for now and explain your situation or borrow the money from family/friends. Don't suffer anymore! In the mean time, try soaking your legs in a hot bath. Exercising (taking a long walk) can help too.

There is an herbal supplement called LegCalm that is very effective at reducing the pain of RLS and it is not expensive. Pain medications will only mask the pain temporarily and can become addictive. This site has very good info

if it is self diagnosed, how do you know if it is surely RLS? If pain lasts 24 hours, you should see someone. My husband was just diagnosed with it, and he did not have pain for 24 hours. Go to a clinic, if need be, but see someone.

You really do need to see a doctor if you are in pain. Is it cramps as salt will help that. I do sympathise as restless legs is a curse. But your health is to important to mess with so go see someone.

I have MS and RLS is one of my symptoms..I have found that if I take hot baths or sleep with an electric blanket the pain and jumping are much worse. .try soaking your feet and legs in cool water, not cold, but cool and see if it helps.

Emergency room is your only choice. Bring a book or two. And it's helpful if someone can bring you food now and then. I once met a person who had waited in an emergency room here in Orlando for 2 days, waiting to be seen. (No health ins.)
