Mexico's Calderon Rips Border Wall Plan MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Mexican President-elect Felipe Calderon on Monday slammed U.S. plans to build more fences on its southern border, saying it would not solve illegal immigration.

"We are worried ... about the actions that the United States is discussing concerning building a border wall and tightening restrictions on migrants," Calderon said after meeting with Mexico's foreign secretary.

The U.S. Senate is debating legislation to build 700 miles of fence on the U.S.-Mexico border along with other security measures, which the House has already passed.

President Vicente Fox, of Calderon's conservative National Action Party, has called the plans "shameful" and said the fence would be like the Berlin Wall. Calderon succeeds Fox on Dec. 1.There are an estimated 11 million Mexicans in the United States, about half of whom are illegal. Last year, Mexican migrants sent home more than $20 billion in remittances.

Just more proof that Mexico doesn´t want to solve the illegal immigration issue because its not a problem for them, but rather a solution to their unemployment crisis. Why would they want to cease the exodus of people flowing out of their country into the US, especially when they´re sending billions of dollars back in revenue? I´ve seen entire towns in Mexico that live solely off money sent from the US.

I saw it and yes, he has no shame. After all, the more people he can get rid of the less Mexico has to worry about and the more money they can send back to Mexico. Since Mexico is in a win win situtation, it is no wonder the goverment does not want a fence. The drug runners might have to tote the drugs across the fence, and Mexico does't want to make it any harder on them than it is.

I honestly hope Calderon creates more jobs in Mexico. It'll be a shame to have Mexicans continuing to flee Mexico when it's really such a rich and beautiful country, I mean where is all that money going??

sounds like Mexico is using the united states to keep there heads above ground. so what if it's like the Berlin wall. we Americans want it up. in this country when the American people say something and mean it the gov listens. they know we can change things. Mexico's sorry a ss president is only encouraging his people to come here illegally, and steal and become criminals. just so he can feed his fat a SS.

I think it is really stupid for building the fence i mean mexicans should have the right to come into the u.s just as any other race. And yes they might be breaking the law but its not like they come over here to sell drugs or any thing like that they come over here to find a desent job to feed their family, but most of you dont see that ya think "well its our country so mexicans souldn't be allowed in it " if ya'll were in their situation then i know you would understand why we dont want them to build that fence. To everyone that doesnt agree with me then i feel bad for you...and hopefully you'll understand some day...

I agree. It is so back-assward it is funny. Here his people are breaking our law and illegally draining our services and he bleats when we try to protect our country.

It is our fault though, because we let them get away with it for so long that they got this sense of entitlement. Ludicrous as it is, we have to show we mean business before they change their tune.

I'm sure that fence would have worked great against their tunnels.
