I was chatting with some friends at my kitchen table. We were discussing the subject of religion and the atrocities that have been inflicted upon the human race as a result of religious conflict. At one point during our conversation, I brought up the subject of the Inquisition and how it was really a political act by Pope Gregory to wrench control away from "wise women" and into the hands of Europe's local parish priests. I spoke about Malleus Maleficarum (The Witch Hammer) and how this ushered in 200 years of persecution towards women. How well over 80% of the 20 million total murders were perpetrated against women.

I didn't realize that my then 7 year old son was listening to this conversation. Suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere I heard his little voice say, "Mom? I don't get it!"

A little surprised that he'd heard the conversation, I said, "What Sweetie? What don't you get?"

He walked into the kitchen from the dining room, carrying his toy truck in his hand and said, "I don't get why that pope guy killed all those women. Didn't he have a mom?"

Out of the mouths of babes!

I told a little girl in my sunday school class at church that the crescent moon was God's thumbnail (that's what my mom told me...) The next thing I know, she's telling the other kids that God is grounded!! I asked why, and she told me that her mother always grounded her if she trimmed her fingernails on her mother's bed. So why did God leave that fingernail lying around?

lol

I love Kids!!!

When my daughter was about 3 or 4 she asked us if Jesus was the street lights that line the streets at night, since they were there to see everyone safely home!

I taught a 6 yr old girl last year, and she asked, "Why did God take my Mummy away?"

Her Mother died of breast cancer. If God was to exist, he'd be one cruel and horrible person.
