In Australia we are issued with two garbage bins. One for waste and another for recyclable garbage.

I've lived in Ontario(canada) and in the city I was in there, they recycled everything and even had compost bins at everyhome.
I've moved to the east coast and where I live now they only recycle plastic and glass.
I have my own compost pile.
I've seen a few others, but not many

Here in the UK we don't recycle enough. Compared to our continental European friends we recycle very little. But the government has now issued local councils with targets they have to meet and recycling is fast becoming popular here, as new recycling schemes (like kerbside collections) are being set up all over the place. What kind of recycling programmes you can use here depends on where you live, but generally you have to do the sorting yourself, you can't just put it all in one general recycling bin.

I have lived in several states in the US, and each locality handles recycling a little differently. In most places, recycling is available and encouraged. However, some places give you a bin specifically to use for it, some don't.

Yes. People live on dumpsites and do the sorting.
