I leave it out in a butter crock with a lid. I've never had it go rancid except when I bought one of those butter bells that suspend the butter in water. Water has bacteria in it and can cause the butter to spoil. That little bell smelled so bad that I couldn't get the smell out of it, so I went back to my Pfaltzgraff butter crock.

you can leave the butter out if you have a butter saver.this has been on the market for years and was a French invention, they use butter for everything , I'ts a ceramic bowl and you fil the bottom with ice cold water an then you sit the butter on top, it will alway be soft and fresh. otherwie keep it in the fridge or it will go rancid.

You can leave butter out for up to two hours before it starts to go bad, but if it's left out longer than that, I suggest you throw it out when your done cooking, or eating, because after 10 of being out, you could cath a sickness from bacteria. Butter should be refridgerated all other times.

I refrigerate it in the warm weather, but in the winter I do leave it out in a butter dish. I hate hard butter and it stays fine for a couple of days..but only in cold weather.

If you leave it out, make sure it is covered. It can stay out for up to a week at a time.
Otherwise keep it in your refrigerator, because since butter is a dairy product, it is perishable.

I don't. Butter gets pretty rancid, pretty quick when left out.
