My gramma is going through the same thing right now, and actually she's already lost one kidney and in the hospital for the other one now, so hopefully I have some info that can help. First, it just depends whether the are capable to heal themselves. Sometimes there's a chance that the kidneys aren't totally gone, and with proper rest they can heal themselves. The other thing is if they still fail, he would most likely do dialisis if he can't get a transplant. Hopefully they aren't to the point that they can't heal themselves though. But if they are, don't worry. There are still plenty of options. I don't know a whole lot of details, but I hope this helped a little. You could ask his doctor and get even more details.

you can still function with 13% of your kidneys operational and it is true that they can heal themselves enough to function dialysis is the next step and then depending on health and a donor stepping forward a transplant. this is something that you need to focus on the now not the maybe.

It means dialysis. Depends on his age if he's even a candidate for a transplant. His renal specialist will give all the info for D. treatment. Good luck.
