Well, you just got them so they really do need time to adjust. I imagine they were probably still in shock when you pet them before. I've had many birds and the most important thing is that they get used to you. I got a parakeet from a family years back. She was pretty mean. I gave her some time and after a few months, I was able to hold her without any problem. One of the best ways to get them used to you is to start by using a dowl rod *like the perches in the cage* to pick them up. Get them used to being picked up by that both in the cage and then out. Slowly, after a while, start introducing your hand to pick them up *but out of the cage so they don't feel cornered or threatened*. It takes a LOT of time and patience, but I guarantee you it works. Remember, you are much bigger than them, so you need to appear as little a threat as possible.

When I get a new order of Budgies in the shop, usually about 26 at a time, the first day they do not bite me because they are confused and unused to the new surroundings but the next day, woweee. They latch on. Clip the outer set of wings on both birds. Begin to perch train them by slowing introducing a perch or wooden spoon a little bit further into the cage every day with some treat on it like a piece of apple. They will soon associate the perch with food and will start to come out to you instead of
sitting on the perch. The younger budgies will have lots of rows of tiny black tipped feathers on the head that disappear as the bird matures and younger birds are easier to work with.

When you bought them they were in an area that they may have been comfortable in. When you brought them home they are now in new surroundings and are scared of everything. For the next two days just start off slow by putting your hand in the cage without touching them. Make sure you talk to them softly to get acquainted with your voice.Slowly as days go by you can catch them and hold them. Try to avoid sudden movement and loud noises. They are just in a new environment and need some time to know they are not going to be harmed. I'm sure the travel to the new place scared them also Good luck, pttyctts

There is nothing wrong. My parakeet did not like me to put my hand in his cage at all. I just left the cage open and then he would hop on my hand. They feel a little threatened if you invade their home. The fact that you have two might present a problem. Harder to train two than one. Give it time and they will be used to you.

They let you handle them, at first, because the change to them was a bit of a shock, and they kinda "shut down" to deal with it. People do the same thing in stress.
Give them time to adjust to you. You will need to spend about an hour with them every day. Start out by just talking to them and offering them millet of some fresh veggies.
Give them time, and be consistent. They will come around.

Take it slow at first and let your budgie get used to you and its new surroundings before trying to get it on your finger. Most budgies talk, but not all. You need to be patient and repetitive when training your budgie to talk. Remember also that a talking bird is a mimic.

Take it slow you are still new to them. Also if you have two birds together they start to prefer to spend time together than with you.
