you have to actually make up your mind that you want to quit. And get rid of all your ashtrays. I just one day about 2 months ago decided I didn't want them anymore and I haven't smoked since or will I again.. Don't think of it as quitting, try to think of it as giving them up. I've been off them for two months and you will not believe how much better I feel. but I don't think the feeling of needing a cig goes away for allot longer because sometimes I still feel like I could use one. but what stops me is I think I'm better than they are and I don't need them anymore, and my will power is stronger than any substance. so here's to you Phillip Morris, I stick my thumb to my nose and blow you a great big RASPBERRY... ;-)

There is a great book out there available new or used by David C.Jones called _YES! YOU CAN STOP SMOKING_
_Even If You Dont Want To_
ISBN:1-878400-01-0
Its amazing.I began like this:I wrote down the time every time I smoked a cigarette, without trying to control an urge. Then, I saw the pattern of how often I smoked. For about 2 weeks. (This requires diligence) Then I started to pay attention to the last time I smoked and tried to prolong it by a reasonable time that I could do with every next cigarette. For 2 weeks or so. Then I again lengthened the time between cigs to a reasonable time that I could be consistent with. I started out freely smoking 20 minutes after the last one. When I got to where 2 or more hours would comfortably go by between cigs, I began to use aids. Since I smoked before my eyes were open in the morning, I had my husband apply the nicotine patch while I was asleep before he went to work. I had no thought of cigs when I woke up. The program was successful. Later _I_ got stupid. Went through the same routine, this time using the nicotine gum which also works.
The book is amazing really. The guy knows what he's talking about. It all helped me to quit. Just keep trying. BTW, I'm off the wagon again. But they say smokers quit many times before they are finally successful. Keep Trying! And check out my name for my answer to a previous question about stopping smoking. Theres an online support group I plan to join. See ya there I hope!

Hmm... I'm not really sure, maybe take it slowly? Like limit yourself to only x smokes a day and do that for a week and then take it down a notch and keep doing so, until you just don't smoke anymore? Or perhaps come up with things to do instead of smoke, like read or play DDR. Maybe even ask a friend to prevent you from smoking if you're lacking self-control. Like take them to the store with you so you don't buy cigarettes or maybe call that friend up when you feel like smoking? I'm not really sure if these are valid ideas, but they're worth a try, right?

I bought lots of bags of candy like M&M's and Jolly Ranchers. Whenever I wanted to smoke, I reached for the candy instead. I quit.

I did the patch and my wife did the gum. It worked for us. Maybe you need some support or someone to quit with.

it's pretty simple, really. Throw away the cigarettes, give your wife all your cash so you cant buy any more, and eat chocolate. Trust me, my uncle did this and it worked,
