My son, who will be 3 years old next month, swallowed a quarter 3 1/2 weeks ago. We have had a couple of xrays done and the quarter has been in the belly for both. It just won't seem to pass. They have scheduled an endoscopy this Thursday to remove it. Has anyone encountered a child that couldn't pass a coin naturally - after it already made it to the belly?

I've had an endoscopy done several times.

Both times, I was put under (general anesthetic) by drugs administered through an IV.

The process was painless for the most part. My throat felt kind of funny afterward. The second one I had done, they took some tissue samples from inside my stomach, so my stomach kind of hurt (like a cut hurts).

The only thing I didn't care for was the first time, I was released WAAAY to early. I was wasted from the drugs (the ingredients used for my general were Demerol and Percocet). The doctor released me into my girlfriends care (now wife) and I guess I was quite a handful. I wasn’t mean, I was a handful like a drunk person is to a sober person. I have little if any recollection of it.

With a 3 year old, if they do a general anesthetic, you should be able to handle them regardless (unlike a petite female dealing with a 175 pound wasted man). However, if you do not think the child has recovered form the anesthetic, don’t let the doctor send you home.

Best of Luck. I’m sure it will go fine!

Although mine have never swallowed something that didn't pass, my daughter has had an endoscopy done. (she is special needs) It really was not that big a deal to me. We've been through a lot since she was born. Imagine shoving a tube in your kid's nose that goes to her stomach, every morning just to feed her throughout the day! He should be just find and I would not worry. Mine came out A OK

He's 10 they're probably just his friends. Stop reading too much into it, if they are those kind of calls why does your son give out your number and think this is okay? Take some responsibility and show the boy some morals instead of coming to Yahoo talking nonsense, how old are you? 15? Acting like a child.

My son Andrew swallowed a penny at 6 months and they had to go after and he did just fine. The penny came out looking shiny and new. Don't let the Dr try to blame you. I vacuumed constantly;checked out my carpet but he still found it. I wil pray for the little guy,but trust me he'll be fine. My Andrew is now 33'His olest brother in the USAF squeased some Ben_Gay in his mouth at age 9 months.(You'd think he's tast it first)He only got enough aspirin in his system for an adult, so was fine.Smile

Endoscopy is a pretty simple procedure, probably seems more scary than it actually is, just be there for the little guy, I'm sure he'll be fine

When i was six i swallowed my money while i was at the circus and i could not swallow anything afterwards when i went to the hospital the did x rays and found the money was lying flat across my swallow tube(don't know medical name) but they had to operate not too sure what they did to me but i eventually had the money come out of me. something you could try to do for your son is buy him a little wallet for the next time he has money. Sorry if this did not help you.

My little sis swallowed a nickle when she was 2 or 3 years old. But it passed on its own.

Hopefully they are putting him out for the procedure. It can very uncomfortable.

I have never heard of a child actually swallowing one, they usually get stuck. Thank God it didn't. Good luck and my prayers are with you. I am sure he will be just fine.
