so I called the police. The officer I spoke to said they couldn't do anything about the situation because the neighbors were inside their own home. I didn't want my kids breathing that, but I didn't know what else to do. If the police can come over because of loud noise disturbances, why couldn't they come over for pot smoke disturbances?

Talk to your landlord about getting vent covers or switching apartments. Your landlord will know the best route to take.

Good! Why have people forgotten the simple rules of living with others? Your neighbors should not be allowing their pot to invade your home, but you should have told them there was a problem! How would they know it was coming into your apartment if you didn't bother to tell them?
Next time you have a problem with a neighbor, tell the freaking neighbor! Do you want YOUR neighbor to call Social Services and tell them that your kid threw a water balloon at their cat, or come to you? Hurting animals is illegal, so they could, you know. And the child protective agency would then have to investigate you for neglect (usually for a minimum of 6 months), since you didn't stop the kids from doing something illegal. All because they picked up the phone instead of knocking on a door.
Sheesh, the police are not hall monitors!

Yea, I can t smoke within 15 feet of any door, but my neighbors can pollute my entire home with their skunk stinking pot smoke!? Really? That is beyond wrong! And they have a 9 or 10 year old kid living there that has no choice...welcome to fog brain and dead end life, kid. Damn irresponsible parents, they should have been born sterile! Parents are the first contact...if it s positive they turn out good, if not, welcome to Hell.

Marijuana smoke is not hazardous to your health. If it were, I'd been a corpse a long time ago. However, loud noises are hazardous to your hearing. Lighten up and count your blessings that they're not cooking crank. Unless you have Cheech&Chong as neighbors, you could burn a little incense. That should take care of the smell. OK man?

i can't believe they didn't knock on the door...at least! Thats not right! if your in an apartment building call your landlord or lease office manager... or call the cops again and tell them it is harming you and your children since you can smell the smoke... I mean they should do something with that... now that most places and resturants are NO SMOKING zones.. you would think that would work. Everyone has the right to breathe CLEAN AIR... don't they? is what I would ask...

Notify the landlord. Tell him that there are illegal activities on his property. Also, tell him that he will be liable if your children become sick from the fumes.
I would call the police again and ask to speak to a detective or a captain. They can conduct a raid if they suspect that someone has ilegal drugs on the premises. I believe that the officer you spoke to was wrong. You cannot impair someone else with your illegal actions.

They could have investigated this further, but probably didn't to keep you and your neighbor from really having a fued. Just close your windows or go over and ask them to close their windows or smoke it somewhere that you cannot smell it.

You just like most of us have Lazy cops if you would have told them your neighbors were not wearing there seatbelts they would have sent the swat team. Because a seatbelt ticket my friend brings money into the city unlike arresting losers and spending money feeding and boarding them

Yes I agree with etelittle ... yes the police only stop crimes that pay into the department ... other crimes the police does not care about ...
You notice how the police have seatbelt awareness and speeding violation awareness ... why don't they have rape awareness or murder awareness???

Get a fire extinguisher and blast the whole thing under their front door for Christ's sake and stop being such a crybaby wimp. If any of them come to the door and open it, mace them in the eyes.
