Becasue the equivalent to the word "witch" has a negative connotation in every language on earth. Wiccans insist on calling themselves witches...do the math. It isn't simply "negatitive propaganda" LOL!.

Not all Witchcraft is in touch with nature or has anything to do with nature. You are probaly thinking of Wicca, which is a form of nature-revering Witchcraft.

But to answer your question, it's because Witchcraft has been getting a bad rap for centuries and hundreds of years worth of negative propagranda isn't going to disappear overnight.

it promotes the idea that people can be in control of thier own lives.

It promotes the idea that every man can attain a personell connection with the devine.

It does not villify the basic animal instincts of the Human being.

******************************************

if these things were widly accepted, then the church would be out of business, and many religious "Officials" would be out of work.

so the church must villify Witchcraft and Paganism. so that it can stay in business.

and they will do this by telling as many lies as they possibly can to make people believe that it is evil and related to Satanism, even though most Pagans and All Wiccans do not even believe in the Devil.

the church, and Hollywood have done a very good job over the last 1500 years (hollywood only had about the last 60 years)
of villifying witches and Pagans.

However through reason, and education we are gaining acceptance in public again.

It is about being in touch with Nature. People only don't like what they don't understand. They think that they are the only ones in the universe with any answers. Those people, no matter what their religion, will never change. If you think it is, it's your opinion, and everyone has a right to theirs. I just don't have to agree with that negative view of my world. :)

People are afraid of what they don't understand. Most people don't bother to learn anything about witchcraft before they start bashing. It's really a shame, but some people have no desire to learn anything new.

Because the bible says it is.

It also says eating shellfish is evil, so I expect people to start picketing Long John Silver's any time now. Any time.

Still waiting.

Because the bible doesn't approve of those practicing witchcraft, and those who don't follow the guidelines the bible puts out will be destroyed by god.
