But then when I went to the vatican I saw thousands of women who are married to Jesus Christ. They had a ceremony, and they all wore wedding rings. Why is it okay for Jesus to have hundreds of thousands of wives, but not his own followers?

Actually, in the US, it is against the law for anyone to practice Polygamy.
What you are seeing there is not the same kind of marriage as that between a man and a woman. It is a Catholic thing but I believe that it relates to the symbolism of marriage being between Christ (the groom) and His church (the bride). Christ is head of the church, the reason for the church, and the leader of the church. By church, I mean the church universal, not some denomination or sect.
When you become a Christian you in a symbolic sense become "married" to Christ.
Personally, I do not participate in nor agree with the ceremony that you speak of.

Lots of Christians have multiple wives. Some are with certain branches or offshoots of the Church of Latterday Saints, but others are of other Christian groups. It may be against someone's rules and even against the law, but it still takes place.

The relationship between Christ and the church is similar to a marriage. When a man and woman get married they "cleave" to one another, that is to "join yourself to that person". THAT is what this represents. It is a joining of ones self to Christ and "cleaving" to Him. The bible calls the church the "bride of Christ", you see the Christians ARE the church and the church is the bride. Get it. Peace.

LOL! Ok, so nuns are married to Jesus. I think priests are too, since they can't marry anyone else. What does that say?
