Ok, in the past few months, I've started having a few problems. First, I've been unrelentlessly constipated (laxatives only give me short term diarrhea, but no long term effects). Eating oatmeal helps a little, but not enough. I get cramps and shooting pains in my chest, belly, sides, and lower back. I have searing gas pains. I get dizzy headaches, and am often nauseous. I feel fatigued, and unusually sleepy in the morning. And now, just recently, on the few occasions in which I CAN, in fact, poop, there's blood. Today there was quite a bit.

I'm not expecting an official diagnosis here - I'm seeing a Dr. as soon as I get my Med. insurance from work this week - but are there any of you that might be knowledgable enough to know what this sounds like? Should I be a little worried, or very?
Hemorrhoid?
Cancer?

It sounds far more serious than a hemorrhoid. A hemorrhoid is simply a varicose vein in the rectum or on th anus. It doesn't cause constipation, gas, bloating or abdominal discomfort.

The possibilities?
1. Cancer. That has all the symptoms you mmention.

2. Partial obstruction of the intestine. This can of course be caused by a tumor, benign or cancerous or a narrowing(stricture).

3. Hernia. This is a slippage of the intestine through the muscular wall of the abdomen. It can cause all the symptoms you m ention you mention except bleeding, though if you have a hernia and hemorrhoid, that would fit the picture.

The whole picture is that you need to see a doctor sooner than later and get a through workup. Make an appointment in the morning and make sure to tell them your symptoms so they expedite your appointment. Don't wait for the insurance to make the appointment, as you will have the insurance sooner than the appointment.

And if the bleeding is increasing you may want to go into an emergency room to be seen. That would expedite getting the tests done.

Good luck and get seen SOON!

i can share with you my personal experience........ i started out kinda like you are now. I had alot of blood in my stool. I just figured i had a hemorriod and dismissed it as that. But as time went on i started getting constipated. About two years had passed when i started passing mostly blood and no stool. I tried laxitives, enimas, even tried mineral oil, but nothing helped. I continued loosing blood and like you became very tired and sometimes disoriented. I did not have health insurance yet so i went to a doctor based on my income. He seemed conserned at the amount of blood i was loosing, and sent me to a doctor that could do a colonoscopy on me. The doctor that he sent me to tried to "sweep it under the rug." He thought that because of my age and the fact that colon cancer does not run in my family that my concerns were not founded. That doctor told me to take medimucil and iron tablets and sent me on my way. Two months passed and i was loosing so much blood and it had been a month since any stool had passed. I retuned to the first doctor, and he advised me to go to the ER. My blood level was well below the transfusion level. I went to the ER where they proceeded to do 3 enimas of their own which did not produce any bowl, just more blood. They admitted me and did a colonoscopy. They in formed me that i did indeed have colon cancer. My tumor was so large that it was blocking any passage. I waited too long to get any help. I'm not sure how old you are but i was 31 at that time. It is rare that someone of my age with no family history of colon cancer should have colon cancer. Don't accept this as an answer. I now live with a colostomy for the rest of my life. Had i went sooner for a colonoscopy, i may not have had to live with a colostomy. I hope you don't have cancer, but it would be a really good idea to get it checked out. Good luck, my prayers are with you.

From what you have stated it is not Clear as to whether you had any treatment for the disease or just waiting for your insurance to come. Insurance is only to help you financially. Even without that you have to carry on the treatment when once you are detected of the disease.

The symptoms mentioned by you are quite normal in untreated colon cancer and also is a part of side effect if radiation therapy is given. Any way the effects are terrible and you have to put up with it for some time and consult your Oncologist and take treatment as advised by him. Please do not wait and delay things. Only by periodical consultation with the oncologist and treatment thereof your disease will be cured. Do not Worry. Please put up with it.

Best of Luck for speedy and permanent recovery.

Hemorrhoids are associated with constipation and straining at bowel movements. How to get rid of hemorrhoids https://tr.im/UTZAJ
Pregnancy is also associated with hemorrhoids. These conditions lead to increased pressure within the hemorrhoidal veins that causes them to swell. Other conditions, for example chronic liver disease, may also cause increased venous pressure and may be associated with hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are very common and are estimated to occur in up to one-half of the population by age 50.

Hemorrhoids don't cause all of the symptoms you mentioned. They can cause rectal bleeding, and it is usually a bright red that comes out as streaks on toilet tissue.

I wouldn't panic over cancer just yet-chances are more likely it's something like an inflammatory bowel disease, or other digestive system disorder. There are many things that can cause blood in the stool, not just cancer.

Not sure - it could be anything - it could be nothing.

What might be going on could include any combination of the following:

ANAL FISSURE (causing blood in the poop - does it hurt when you go?)
ANXIETY (are you stressed? are you sleeping well?)
DRUG SIDE EFFECTS (what medication are you on?)
ELECTROLYTE IMBALANCE (abnormality of the salts in the blood - are you eating well?)
HAEMORRHOIDS
INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE (crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis - do you have fevers/chills/shivers)
IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME
VIRAL ILLNESS

Cancer is very unlikely. It can cause blood and mucus on your poop, constipation, nausea and lethargy but what you describe doesn't sound like a cancer. On the other hand, it can be a little tricky. Remember to tell your doctor that you are worried about this possibility.
