You can find most of these programs at one website, www.filehippo.com.

1. Antivirus (http://www.filehippo.com/software/antivirus/)
2. Anti-spyware (http://www.filehippo.com/software/antispyware/)
3. Firewall (http://www.filehippo.com/software/firewalls/)
4. Popup Blocker (http://www.filehippo.com/software/browsers/)

The website only hosts the best quality freewares and sharewares (seriously).

Sygate Personal Firewall, if you insist on a freebie. It's extremely configurable, not good for a novice.

The two goodies I use are Spybot S&D http://www.spybot.info
and Spywareblaster http://www.spywareblaster.net
I've used these (and only these) on my old win98 PII for five years and counting - with no virus or related evil happenings!
