The best thing that a person can do for the environment - prepare yourself now - is to die and decompose into the soil.

Don't litter, don't spit on sidewalks, clean up after ourselves, turn the furnace down a few degrees, turn the ac up a few degrees, walk a little more etc. These may seem like small things on an individual scale but they add up if lots of people do them. After we get good at small things, we can tackle larger ones.

ok in any job they teach you to pick up after everyone no matter what right? so i think thats a pretty big step. even if its picking up a can on your way into the grocery store. look at it the other way, if you threw the can out while walking into the grocery store, but while leaving you see someone picking it up, you will feel bad about it and may even be encouraged to pay-it-foward by picking up something in the future, its kinda a chain reaction...:)

Buy local produce, drive less and bike and walk more. Use a refillable mug when you buy coffee, and when you do buy organic fair trade. Grow your own vegetables, plant trees in your yard (if you have a yard). Stop buying processed crap.
