It takes like 3 1/2 hrs.. the computer is not that old and the DVD burner is brand new. How can I speed up the burning process. Can I set it to only decode just the main movie..... what can I do?

1. Before burning a DVD, exit from all programs and I mean everything. This should free up a good deal of memory and CPU cycles - Nero will be able to use all the resources.

2. Use high speed DVD blanks (e.g. 8x or 16x). Also, set Nero to burn at the maximum speed. There is an option in the last window which allows you to set the burning speed.

3. Make sure you are using the latest driver for your DVD drive. Some drivers can bump up the burning speed (e.g. from 8x to 16x).

4. Update Nero. If you have Nero 6.6 Ultra Edition then there are a number of update packages - packages #1 and #4 should be enough. If you are using Nero 7 then update it as well. Most updates are for minor fixes and bugs but it couldn't hurt to try.

5. Make sure your PC has all the latest Windows Update patches. I vaguely remember a glitch in the Window OS that causes slow recording on optical drives. I'll dig around and see if I can find the article.

6. DVD Shrink is a old program and is no longer being developed or supported. You could try another software. Someone mentioned AnyDVD and CloneDVD. AnyDVD decrypts the DVD movie and CloneDVD shrinks the original movie and burns it on to a blank DVD disk. You will need both programs. They are excellent choices but they are not free. They come with a 21 day trial period. As a alternative, try DVDFab Decrypter version 2.9.8.0 do not use version 3.0.1.0 or higher. The newer versions always displays ads to purchase the commercial products. You can find it at www.majorgeeks.com or www.betanews.com.

Use CloneDVD along with AnyDVD. You can download free trials of both at http://www.slysoft.com Most likely you can burn a full dual layer dvd with all menus, extras and etc. (if you wish) to a 4.7 Gb DVD disc in around an hour even with an older computer. You can try both programs free for 21 days then you would need to buy them to continue using them.

Yeah, you can use just the main movie, but you won't gain that much speed. Upgrade your computer, it's much slower then you think. I can crank through all of that in less then 60 minutes, I've got an Athlon 2500 with only 376MB if junk generic ram.

I use exactly the same thing, and mine takes about 25 to 45 mins to backup the DVD and about 30 mins to burn it. I guess your computer is slow. Here is the DVD Shrink Guide. http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdshrink31-main.htm
