Get the kitten used to getting his claws clipped with fingernail clippers. Do it every week and the claws will get shorter and shorter. Also give the kitty a scratching post to use.

That's just what kittens do. Your dad should know this. He needs to develop some forbearance for the little tyke.

This is what happens when a kitten is brought into a home and all people in the family are not prepared to deal with typical kitten behavior.

In another month the kitten will be too heavy to climb up the screen and you may not be using the screen door then anyway when the weather turns cold.

He put up with your shenanigans when you were a baby, he needs to do the same with the kitten.

most kitten problems regarding bad behavior can be solved with a spray bottle. have it handy for about a week, when it does anything bad spray it. a bottle that sprays 10 feet or more works best since you may not be close to him when hes running up a screen door. worst case get the cat declawed or disable his claws by laser treatment if hes a rebel.

i for one am against declawing, b/c its an unessacery surgery that leaves a cat defenseless. all you have to do is make sure their nails are trimed (this way they dont feel the need to "file" down their nails.... preferably on carpets, couches, and of course screens) it also helps to keep handy a squirt gun or a spray bottle, to spray them when they do it, this way they'll get the hint not to do this. believe me, cats dont like water. (except maine coone cats--which i'm pretty sure this is not what you have) its pretty simple to fix, you just have to stay on top of it. dont spray him after wards, but spray him when he's in the act or right before you KNOW he is going to start to go for the screen.
best of luck to you!

we use a spray bottle with water in it and spray our cats when they do something we don't like. the cat will get the hint and leave it alone in the future. also, get your kitten a scraching post. we trained one of our cats to scratch on the post and we give her a treat. this helps with her sharp claws and keeps her away from the furniture.

I trim my cats claws once a week, it takes about 30 seconds with a pair finger nail clippers.

Just give him something else to be interested in.

A scratching post ... toys he can roll around that make noise....cats LOVE boxes...

I highly advise against declawing.

double stick tape on all surfaces that he gets on will help. put it on everything for awhile, and he won't like the stickiness and will stop, then when he gets the idea, take it back off.
