The man would have to produce identification and the officer can verify its authenticity. Otherwise, officers are taught to use universal precaution with everyone.

The presumption of authority to enter w/o a warrant or "cause" is reason to suspend that paranoid cop. Even a crime witnessed [not mentioned in your question] does not constitute 'cause' w/o reporting to dispatch and getting authority to enter. Only if life or injury is clearly present, someone endangered would there be 'cause', as running into a house is not a crime. Cops should stay at the station until called by a citizen. FBI have behaved corruptly, ineptly, as loose cannons & nuts, and as freehanded willies under the Patriot act, gone wild also with the "drug war" and stress, exposures to hazardous materials, etc, so it would be unlikely any but a "rogue" agent would act w/o protocol. In your scenario, the neighbors would be justified in "breaking it loose" upon Both home invaders.

They dont just take their word. The agent has to identify himself and produce credentials. FBI dont run into buildings when cops are chasing them.
