Why does everything exist instead of nothing?

Because nothing cannot exist.

If you think about it logically, if nothing could ever exist or occur without a cause, then nothing would ever exist or occur at all, because there could never be a first, uncaused cause to start things off. So, at least something has to exist and occur uncaused. That being the case - if things happen uncaused - then you couldn't have a state where nothing ever existed, because stuff would always just come into existence uncaused, at random.

Now, quantum physics says exactly this; it says that stuff comes into existence uncaused (the 'quantum vacuum') and that existence and events on the scale of fundamental physics are based on probability rather than determinism. So, physical theory and experimental evidence (the Casimir Effect) agree with logic and reason.

So that's why something exists instead of nothing - Because nothing cannot exist. Incidentally, it also proves that a creator god cannot exist (because it's logically impossible for a state of nothing to exist from which a creator could make the universe).

There is no answer to that except to say that maybe everything does not have to have a cause and maybe everything will return to nothing from whence it came.
