at that time I used to work in a hospital and as usual as I was in a hurry to go home..this man was coming in to the hospital and he asked me ...where is the emergency room? I just pointed and kept on walking, he looked drunk, his eyes were red and shiny.. I went on home, and to my dismay when a went to check on the floors I found the man that I didn't help, and to my dismay the reason he eyes were red and swhiny was because he had glass in his eyes and he couln't see. to this day I feel guilty about it, what should I do to take this load off of me. It still bothers me a lot, I was to embarras to apologize to him, he did not recognize me.
*******I hope Cbread get to see this question, every one makes mistakes***************

I don't know that you can apologize to the man, but you can make a resolution to yourself to always help someone in need no matter what the circumstance. Also, you need to forgive youself. Yes, it was wrong, but you know that and you don't sound like you would make that same mistake. And like you said, everyone makes mistakes. I hope this helped. Good luck!

Wow, a moving story. But yes, like the other respondents, you just need to forgive yourself, give yourself a break - we've all made mistakes, even ones we don't even know we made (ie, insulting someone with a flippant remark).
I think by you just sharing this story, you have taught anyone reading it that we 1) all make mistakes and 2) need to slow down and take the time to see, feel, acknowledge and listen to other people walking this planet. I think everyone needs to re-learn these wonderful life lessons.
14 yrs is a long time to hold onto guilt - it'll just eat you up inside. Just confessing it (like you already have) is a wonderful step.
Or put it this way, if your best friend confessed this to you, how would you counsel or console her? What would you say? What would you feel towards her? Now, do the same for yourself !

Everyone of us have made mistakes. Pray for the guy and FORGIVE YOURSELF! There is nothing further you can do. One VERY important thing I'm studying is to live and think IN THE PRESENT. So many spiritual teachers talk about this. If you can, listen to CD's by Dr. Wayne Dyer (available at Amazon), Louise Hay, Joyce Meyer. Also you can purchase downloads to your computer from Mind Perk audio downloads, at mindperk.com. Try to make an effort to choose to stay in the PRESENT at each moment (as much as you can) and to ALWAYS choose peace. Meditation is also a wonderful, helpful tool. Learn how to love and forgive yourself, quickly, before it harms you physically. You are a worthy and deserving child of God!

We all get tired and grouchy and want to go home. I know I do. Especially when you work in that type of environment when you constantly see people who do harm to themselves. It hardens us a little. You didn't realize at the time that he REALLY needed help. We all make horrible mistakes that we have to let go. Maybe you can volunteer one day reading to the blind or on radio for the blind. Or send in a gift to the poor and tell yourself you are doing it in his honor. Sometimes helping others relieves us of some sort of guilt. I bet you have helped thousands of others since then. You sound like that kind of caring person, so I know you have!

We must learn to forgive ourselves. We are all human and non perfect. Sometimes we get caught up in ourselves and just don't see the big picture. You have held on to this guilt far to long. Forgive yourself this short coming. That's where it starts. You must be a wonderful caring person or this would not be bothering you for so long. In life we have learning experiences and maybe this was one of yours. It's OK, let it go it's been 14yrs. If you even tried to get up with this person he probably would not even remember you or the incident. So let it go. God Bless You

By realizing your mistake, and especially since you have passed this story on, you have settled with karma, I doubt the man gives it one second's thought.
I had a similar thing happen to me about 12 years ago, and don't remember enough about it to remember if anyone was rude or not. I think if the man could realize how you feel now, he would tell you not to worry.

When I was on a telephone service, a girl called to tell me that her sister and her boyfriend were walking around nude in front of her. I thought it was funny, and in retrospect, I think of it as an error that I didn't take her seriously, and suggest a solution to her.

First of all - you've admitted that you made a mistake & are truly sorry. Now forgive yourself! Just make a promise to yourself that you won't do it again & quit beating yourself up over it. God Bless You.

We all have failed to act appropriately. Just make sure when the next opportunity arrives, you don't have any regrets. God is willing to forgive you. Just ask him.
