Anything with Religion in it causes sinners to run to the ACLU or protest because of their sinful convictions.

I'm atheist, and I am here precisely to resist people like you. I don't think you are a bad person, but I think you don't know history, and your fervent belief is causing you to take a stand that is dangerous for religious freedom.
Many of the "puritans" who fled England fled it because of the Church of England. The Church of England is a Christian church, but it is a state sactioned church. The puritans wanted freedom to practice their religious beliefs without interference from government.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." What part of that is unclear?
Finally, I agree completely that one should not lie, steal, or kill. That's 3 of the 10 commandments. The first 4 commandments are all purely about God. The U.S. Goverment should stay completely neutral to them.
Suppose the 1st amendment was nullified and this country was officially recognized as a christian nation. What then should the country do with Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Wiccans and other types of religons, let alone people who have no religion? Are all of these people no 2nd class citizens? What about Catholics and Mormons, who consider themselves to be Christian, but many Christians do not recognize as Christian? Would these branches of Christianity be discriminated against?
Please think clearly about this. The separation of church & state is one of the wisest things the founders did.

I think that it's time for you to re-read the Ten Commandments and the Constitution of the United States .
To review ;
1) Thou shalt have no other gods before me
2) Thou shalt not make unto the any graven images
3)Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain
4)Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy
5) Honor thy father and thy mother
6) Thou shalt not kill
7)Thou shalt not commit adultery
8 )Thou shalt not steal
9) Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor
10) Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife
Would care to tell us exactly which one of the above commandments that this nation was founded upon ?
Next Review - the text of the First Amendment
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; nor abridging the freedom of speech, or the press; or the right of the people to peaceably assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances"
Remember :" History without context is crap"- me
So what do you think the Founding Fathers were afraid of when they not only put five rights in a single amendment , but listed that amendment first ? Clearly something was bothering them what was it ?
What was bothering them was the power of the Crown ,the power of the Cross and the power of the Cross and Crown together.
Their solution to the religious issue was ingenious; They created Freedom FROM Religion because they were all too familiar with exactly how abusive a state sanctioned religion could become to non-believers. (The Salem Witch Trails had been held lessthan a century before the Revolution -1692 )
In the process of creating Freedom From Religion they created Freedom of Religion
The Founding Fathers ( some of whom were very pious Christian men) had the choice to make this officially a Christian Nation and the chose not to.
New ideas require new forms to express them.
The United States of America was a new nation , founded on the radical principal that governments derive their just powers not from the will of kings or bishops but from the consent of the governed. The old ways had no rightful place here, so they were rejected.

Ha:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
- First Ammendment of the US Constitution -
This is known as the establishment clause, and means that Law and Religion cannot respect each other in any way. You're the one who hasn't done your research...
So, you wouldn't mind the five pillars of Islam plastered on anything, or perhaps the Eight-Fold Path? Really. If you want to see the 10 commandments everyday, hang them up in your house or go to a church. But when you are on public property we have the right to be free from religion.

LOL! sturdy question! No, i'm no longer continually questioning concerning to the ten commandments. somewhat, and that i'd favor to get boohissed for this, it really isn't any longer a lot diverse for Christian than it somewhat is for an Athiest (or the diverse faith). I have this problem suggested as an ethical compass. It publications me on what's magnificent and incorrect, no longer in reality on the muse of non secular beliefs. Stealing is incorrect, i do not must be Christian to comprehend that, similar with maximum of the diverse Commandments. Even honoring your moms and dads, it somewhat is somewhat hassle-free for the length of cultures (and Religions) to be raised to coach elders recognize. i'd say the only commandment that demands some concious deliberation is that of no longer worshiping fake idols. something is amazingly in reality an ethical coaching guide no longer a lot diverse than that of many cultures/societies.

Seperation of church and state was taken as a quote from Thomas Jefferson himself in a letter to a church leader explaining a seperation of church and state that would act as a one dimensional wall where the state couldn't mess with church affairs, but God would always be a part of Government.
Historically, the congress started it's sessions in prayer, Ben Franklin suggested a day of fasting and prayer when an issue had been argued and gone stale with no solution. I live in New England and there are town records calling for fasting and prayer when the towns were going through tough times. Town meeting notes. Pretty sad to see how this country started and the way it is heading. I commend those nations now in Africa that are starting new constitutions and not only allowing God in, but making it a state sponsored thing where Christianity is the state religion. Other religions can be practiced, but God will be in the government, in the schools, and everywhere else they want to put it...
I wish we'd go back to that, but am not sure there is enough tolerance for christianity in america.

You honestly don't see the problem with posting the ten commandments on government buildings? It's the CHRISTIAN ten commandments. There may be nothing wrong with what they say, but the fact is they come from the christian religion. Would you also like to have posted Buddist beliefs? How about Islam?
No dear it was not founded as a Christian nation. That is just something you've heard somewhere and are spitting back out.

The 10 commandments are the perfect law of God. The separation of church and state has been carried way too far. America was not founded as a Christian nation, just made to look that way. The founding fathers were also Illuminati Satanists, as are the present day rulers of this world. We all need to be aware of this.

Our country was founded as a nation where you can have any faith.
As a Christian, you would feel slighted if the United States said "you can practice any religion, but we will post portions of the Quaran on our public buildings."
Separation between our government and church, mosque, synagouge, etc. allows equality among the citizens of our country.
People who want the Ten Commandments removed from government buildings aren't against the teachings of the Commandments.
They are against their government implying the teachings of a certain religion are more valid.

I'm not going to give you that separation between church and state crap, but I will clarify that the Constitution in no way endorses any religion including Christianity. We are free to believe what we want to believe, not just your religion. That being said, you would have a cow if we put a giant stone emblem of Islam on the Capitol steps. I'm not saying hide the mighty Ten, but you have to be honest about what you are arguing. You are not arguing freedom of religion. You are arguing freedom to evangelize your religion...

This country was founded on Christain principal, the problem we have now is too many immagrants who bring their own "principals" which are totally changing the we as Americans live. We have too many choices because the government is to afraid to step up and take control. I am for posting the ten commandments anywhere anyone chooses.
