Do you go to the doctor if you are not sick? Though you should get the dog his rabies shots.. It is funny how they sucker ya into taking your dog to the vet more than ya visit your own doctor... Yeah, I got a story about my dog and the doc telling me it had a bad heart and I was taking him to this vet all the time, I mean it cost me thousands.... Then one night my dog gets real sick.. I could hear her stomach 100 yards away... Anyway I take him to the emergency vet and she tells me the dogs heart is fine.. well my dog hasn't been sick or back to that doctor since that night.. He no longer takes meds and I am a whole lot richer... I hope your dog stays well but you should get him shots..

I think that's perfectly fine if you think she's doing ok, but again there might be stuff that are not too obvious for us to notice, just like when someone has cancer or something, there are not really many obvious symptoms in the early stages. You are lucky that your dog is so healthy, i've only gotten my dog 2 months, he's been to the vet about 5 times, the shots and rabies, and also diarrhea problem!!

The problem with dogs is that there are so many things that can happen that you wouldn't notice that your vet would. For example, you wouldn't notice that your dog had heart worms until its probably to late. Or, your dog could have cancer, and you would never know until it was too late too. Plus they need to stay current on vaccinations, just in case they were ever to slip out the front door, or if you walked them in an area where a sick dog had been. Not to mention if they were to get bit by a rabid animal. Best to be on the safe side.

Some may say that an annual health check-up is important, but my opinion is that if your dog (dog as in mature dogs) seems happy and healthy, then there really is no need to take him/her to the vet.
Depending on where you live, don't you need a Rabies booster shot every year or every three years? If it is required/mandatory by your state, then I think that that is important, not only for your dog but for the safety of other dogs and humans.

Pets should visit their vet once a year to receive their annual vaccines, a heartworm test and a stool check for parasites. In most states a Rabies vaccine is mandatory for your dog, if she should bite someone you will have a problem if she is not vaccinated for Rabies.
Also a dry nose and a wet nose are not indicators of good or bad health in a pet.

First, it's illegal to have a dog without rabies shot. At her age, she need shot every three years.
Second, she needs heart worm medicine. By the time you find out she has the heart worm, it will be to late to save her. You need prescription from the Vet.
Prevention is much cheaper and safer than treatments. That's for you and your dogs. It's very good idea to have a check-up
I wish you and your dogs for healthy long life.

Yes it is wrong, a vet is the only person who can administer the rabies vaccination and your dog needs that every year!!!! She can get rabies in her own backyard. She also needs yearly booster shots for the standard stuff you did when she was young. If you don't get the boosters then you dog is not protected from those diseases.

Your dog needs yearly boosters against parvo, distemper, etc. What about rabies vaccines? She should be checked at least twice yearly for worms. What about checking for heartworms and giving her heartworm preventative? Dogs should go to the vet at least once yearly for boosters, wormings, and checkup.
I used to avoid doctors myself just like the plague. Went too many years without a pap smear. Then cancer invaded my body. It could happen to you too. I am over the cancer, but have a mutitude of other health issues. Before the cancer, I was always very healthy, or thought I was.

Vet visits can be expensive, but a yearly visit to your vet ensures that your pet is healthy. She may have never 'appeared' sick or ever gotten hurt, but without yearly vaccines, the unthinkable can happen. She also needs her rabies shot yearly. Your vet can do a 'well check-up' just like pediatricians do with babies/children and our doctors do with us. It never hurts to be sure. Their lives and health is in our hands.

Well if you've had her for so long and she's been ok then I don't see a problem. She is 7 now though so maybe bring her for a check up once a year or so just to make sure, she's nearly an old lady...!
