No it isn't a joke. Doesn't the bible say he will rise again after 3 days and 3 nights? The math just doesn't work.

And I wasn't looking for a mistake. I honestly have never been able to reconcile this. And yes, there are plenty of mistakes in the bible.

In Jewish tradition, a Jewish day starts at sundown and ends at sundown, roughly 6:00 P.M. So it would have been Thursday @ 6 P.M. to Friday @ 6P.M = Day 1, Friday 6 P.M. to Sat @ 6 P.M. = Day 2 and finally Sat @ 6 P.M. to Sun. 6 P.M. = Day 3
You are correct, the Bible said he rise on the 3rd day, Jesus also said that he would rebuild the temple in 3 days. The temple is his body. You had a good question that is hard to figure out unless you know a little about Jewish tradition. If you don't ask, you won't know.
Shame on those answering so sarcastically to your question, truly shameful!

Thank you!!!!!!!
This is some research I have done on the subject:(For reference--I wrote this around Easter of this year)
"Dispelling the 'Good Friday' Myth"
Well, as most of you guys know, I am a born-again Christian. As we come up on the Easter weekend, I notice once again how many celebrate 'Good Friday'. Now, let me be clear...I will never ridicule any day that we can get schools, businesses, and government offices to recognize something about Christ. However, 'Good Friday' has always been a pet peeve of my family.
Most people, regardless of their personal faith, know that Easter is the celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord three days after His death. Let us use some basic math skills. If Christ died on Friday-(as those who celebrate 'Good Friday' suggest or believe)
Then...Friday - Night
Saturday - Day
Saturday - Night
He rose "On the first day of the week, very early in the morning"* (Sunday)
Therefore...if Christ was killed on Friday, He was only in the tomb one day and one night, since He did not spend all of Saturday night in the grave.
Now. Consider this. If Christ was crucified on Wednesday, this is how it would play out.
Wednesday - Night
Thursday - Day
Thursday - night
Friday - Day
Friday - Night
Saturday - Day
He rose sometime during Saturday night, since when the women came to the tomb "very early in the morning"*, the tomb was already empty.**
That would be 3 days and 3 nights that Christ was in the tomb.
Why then, do we celebrate Good Friday? Most people count simply - Friday, Saturday, Sunday- and get three days. Understandable, and as I said before, I rejoice that people celebrate the death of Christ- no matter what the day. However, I also think it's important that people understand this as well. Most churches have Sunday services and...Wednesday services. That was originally started to celebrate Christ's death just as the Sunday services were started by the disciples to remember the day that Christ rose again.
Hope this helps!

Why are you thinking with earthly hours? One guy answered right about the Jewish 3 days. but I believe that it goes further than that. The Word says that to God, a thousand years is as a day, and a day as a thousand years. We have no true idea what it was like to die, go to hell, preach and set the captives free, rise again, fulfill prophecy and save us from sin.
I have often wondered what it was like to be the Son of man, to have to endure earthly time at all ...
but you don't have to think with earthly thoughts,
i am eternal in spirit. A christian thinks with kingdom mindset.
while I can't comprehend eternity I can assume that the afterlife isn't in a 24 hour time span of days and nights.

It is sort of like when someone works on something for three days. It does not mean that they worked for 72 hours beginning at midnight and then ending at midnight 3 days later. If you work part of a day on Friday and then again on Saturday and part of Sunday, you would say that you worked on it 3 days. It does not have to mean 3 full days.

You can't take the Bible literally. I personally don't believe the world was created in 6 - 24hour days either. What about the dinosaurs. I believe the Bible is a guide with stories to teach lessons. There is just too much contradiction. IF Jesus is the savior...then why does Hosea 13:4 say that there is no other savior but me...it was God talking and he even identified himself as the God that brought the Israelities out of Slavery in Egypt.
Go figure.
I find the Bible to be a valuable book to keep people in check with their consience. It gives people something to live for.

Are people really that stupid here that think that friday, saturday, and sunday = 1, 2, 3? It is more like 0, 1, 2. You never start counting from one until you've completed 24 hours.

Jesus was a Biblical Jew and Biblical Jews never had Fridays and Sundays.
The 3 days are Friday, Saturday and Sunday according to the worshippers of Zeus, from Friday night to early Sunday morning, which will account for less than 36 hours, but mystery believers say 3 days and 3 nights, but how can you reason with a mystery believer who can never knbow what he/she believes?

It means that you know nothing about the Jewish Calender. The Jews count a day or part thereof as one day; not the way in which we count it as a 24 hour period. So for eg. Monday 11 am to 12 midnight is still a day in the Jewish Calender. However, Monday 11 am to Tuesday 11 am, we will say that is one day. Love, be bless

It was based on the way that the Jews designated a day. Any part of a day is considered a full day. Therefore Friday afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday morning make up 3 days.
