when I was in college in the late 80's my ENT talked me into allergy shots after my second sinus surgery. I noticed nothing for two years and gave up. On my 30th birthday I ran into my old ENT, he asked how my allergies have been, I thought about it and realized I had absolutely no allergies, none at all, this was in springtime Louisiana, everybody was hacking away. He explained the key is to test for all of your allergies, and progressively introduce them to your body. kind of like vaccines use dead forms of viruses antibodies are built up or should i say tolerance. but whatever i never have to use antihistamines.

Yes, I went to an allergy doctor and had patch tests to see what I was allergic to. I used to get the shots a few times a week when I lived in the north, and take an antihistamine RX.

Now I live in the south and don't need them, I just take an RX antihistamine.

I have bad case of allergies. I have gone thru those routes of injections. They don't work. I stick mostly to antihistaminics over the counter. Some generic brands such as equate from Wal Mart works. I always look at the chlortrimetron component or ingredient. As they zero in on your allergies. I have tried sudafed, singular, zyrtec and when it's severe plain chlortrimetron 12 mgm. It never failed. I also take Vitamin C 1,000 mgm everyday. I hardly get sick with colds.

I don't know what type of shot you are referring to, but usually an antihistamine will do the trick (think Claritin, Zyrtec). Also nasal sprays can be used in conjunction with some antihistamines to help even more (like Flonase or Nasonex). I have chronic sinus problems and this works for me. You should see a doctor before you possibly get a sinus problem or infection.

For some people they work very well. Of course you have to keep taking the shots on a regular basis for quite some time
