From my experience in the Navy, the base community prides itself on being helpful to the struggling family. Navy relief will help again but they make you go thru budget and review all over again. You may not want my advice, and I'm sure your husband wont like it, but my commands have always been eager to help young struggling couples. If you know anyone personally and trust them, ditch your pride and ask for a loan from a friend or neighbor. Better yet get him to talk to his chief about the problem and I'm sure they will help you. Depending on the chief they may make him take budgeting classes, but I know they praise sailors for asking for help and punish sailors for waiting till problem gets to their attention by another means. Like a letter of indebtedness. You dont want that, trust me!

I'm not military, so I don't know about things on base, but personally, I would assume that there's someone on base that helps families in crisis situations? Or perhaps someone that would at least know your options? What about any family or friends or a church that could loan you a few dollars to pay even part of the bill?

Also, you could call the electric company directly and ask if they can help you somehow, maybe even just give you a few days' grace to come up with a solution? As I always say, "It never hurts to ask."

As a last resort, is there a place in your town for donating plasma? It's like donating blood, but if you're not ill or on certain medications, they pay you about $20 more or less because it tends to take a little longer. Good luck hon.

First of all, don't even consider doing anything immoral or illegal. Guilt can destroy! I was in the Navy and I think I may help. Navy relief is not the only resource you have. Go to the C.O.'s office and ask to see (if hubby is a O see the Officer on duty if E see Command Master Chief. ) Find out who is the supporting Ombudsman for wife's with hubbies on deployment. They will direct you to her. Contact her. this is not the first time this has happened. The Navy takes care of their own! Use it!
Secondly, Find a girlfriend who needs a few extra bucks. Get together and look for employment agencies who provide day labor services. Labor ready is a good one. They have offices in almost every city in the U.S. Their motto " Work today-Get paid today." You'll leave the office with cash in-hand. It's not much, but it's honest and if you start early enough, you'll have enough. Good luck, Zip

I'd go to the Navy Relief and ask for help. Your husband can get discharged for financial irresponsibility. Do not go to a payday loan company or you will only get deeper into debt quickly. Do you have items that you can take to a consignment shop for some cash? Figure out why you are in this situation again. Do you have bills such as cable TV that you can put on 'vacation' for a few months? Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

Check your local community centers for utility assistance grants. I applied for one today and they paid the whole bill. Also if you have kids the company will not do shut off generally. You need to go to the power company also about a pay plan or reduced rate plan. Based on income they lower your monthly bill. The Liheap program for winter energy is also arround the corner. It's a federal grant that pays for heating bills. Starts in Nov.

problem is, since you have already availed yourself of Navy Relief, they will not give you any more money right away, especially if you are still paying them back.

Have you spoken with the utilities company and explained the situation? maybe they would be willing to extend you some time.

Try Navy relief again. I can't believe youre in this much of a mess... I don't know all your personal details, but maybe you could try taking a financial management class. They are readily available on base.

If you are on or near your husbands' base, you should be able to contact your Navy Relief, or Red Cross. Go to your base chaplain, if you feel comfortable doing that, the Chaplain should be able to help you. From A Vietnam Veteran, thank your husband for his service.

Check out the military one source web site or call the phone number. I'm sure they can get you to resources like the family support center on base.
