Say, "Selling strictly AS IS, transmission slips"

And put willing to bargain on your sign, OR, lower the price. Tranny problems is 85% why to buy or not buy an older car. I'd say squish it unless you can get more than $550.

Cheaper!

Advise potential buyer of the problem, and let him know that he is buying "as is". Naturally, - he will want to lower the price about as much as another transmission!

Have you had a good transmission man check it out, - meaning somebody that doesn't like to rebuild transmissions that much and is honnest enough to just fix the minor problens!

By the way have you checked the transmission oil level?? Low oil will cause malfunction, and ruin transmission also-- if you drive it too far that way!

If the problem is fixable without overhauling the trransmission (pulling it out and replacing in car). Since you haven't told what the transmission is doing, I can only guess. Going into "gear' very slowly when cold, but working fairly well when hot, - could mean you just need filter and oil changed (you have to "drop the pan" on transmission to do this!) If it works good cold, but fails when hot, you have severe troubles (probably worn seals on actuating pistons or scored cylinders for same)-- you have to remove and disassemble the transmission to fix this. Baulking on shifting could be external part, or maybe adjustment (some are adjustable to some extent), - or even oplugged pasage in "valve body" which is removeable with the "pan" off on bottom lof transmission.

Put slick 50 Transmission additive in it, and make sure you tell the potential buyer of any known problems.

The car may just need a fluid change. I would invest $75 for a fluid flush. If you've done that and it is still slipping you have to find out:

what your car is worth $4,500
cost of the trans repair/replace -$1,000
= $3,500
less convenience -$1,000
=$2,500
that would be fair.

you actually will have to come down considerably less than that price too

You advertise it as is. Tell the buyer its problems to avoid a law suit. Do not misrepresent the vehicle in any way or you will be guilty of more then one consumer law.

You have to disclose this issue to potential customers to have a valid sales contract. YOu could conceivably be sued for fraud if you don't.
Good luck, many people buy cars with needs.

If it's a bad problem, sometimes the tranny shop guys will buy it. They can fix it cheap, and then they'll resell it.
