We had a good ysa activity. We went opp shopping (alls you need is like $1 each) and we braught an item of clothing. We then came back to the chapel and sewed our clothes into animal costumes! ha ha, there were some pretty funny ideas!

You might check around to see if there are any 4-H groups or FFA members with animal projects. Maybe they could bring them to the Church and do a little presentation about their animal project. My kids do both and it is surprising how little people know about market animals! Or you could have the girls each put together a little presentation about their pet to share with other (yeah, I know how it is getting the girls to do anything!)
Or, perhaps you could have a veterinarian come in and do a little presentation.
You could start with a fun activity like, "If you were an animal, what would you be and why?"
And finally, look in a Girl Scout handbook for Senior Scouts. They have merit badges in the different areas, and they may have some good ideas also.

Check around your ward and see who has a job that centers around animals, or nature, or whatever you feel will work for your purposes. You may have someone who can teach your youth about animal care, nature conservation, training animals, etc.
I’m sure that they would love to share their occupation with the youth, and you all can learn something useful towards your future. Don’t forget the animal crackers and punch!

I'm Beehive class president, so I have some experience in that area. I would say that you maybe should consider a 'nautre night'...a hike in a nearby mountain (if you're from Utah like I am), a stroll in the forest...maybe even a scavenger hunt for bird nests and quaking aspens or something.
Also...please do not refer to us as Mormons. President Hinckley counsels us to remember that we are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. At the very least, write 'LDS Mutual'.

Here are a few suggestions: 1) Try contacting your local library to see if they have a "bone box "or something similar. In the "bone box" they may have bones from animals native to your area and pelts from animals native to your area. It usually includes literature about the animals. You can usually check this out from your local library if you are a teacher our a community leader. 2) Also, check with a local farm or zoo to see if they can bring in a few animals to share with the Young Men and Young Women. 3) If all else fails, check out a video about animals. 4) Show a Noah's Ark Video. 5) Check with the Boy Scouts to see if they have any ideas. 6) check with your local forest ranger. Good luck and have fun!

Nature centers are great if you have one near you. They usually don't charge anything, and you have the expertise of the staff/rangers at your disposal!
