The first thing to know about Financial aid is knowing what area of financial aid we are talking about. If I give you 5p that IS financial aid and that is all there is to know.

What exactly is it you don't understand? The term itself is pretty self explanatory : 'financial' (money) 'aid' (help and assistance).
In whatever context it is used - personal, family, community, county, country, politics, school, education, cause .....
If money is lent on favourable terms, or given free gratis - for whatever use it may be required for, and given or lent to assist that reason - then it is financial aid.

You need to clarify what country you're talking about I'm afraid. The two educational systems I'm familiar with have very different systems of financial aid.

You borrow the money and when you graduate you pay it back. The interest accrues year after year if you don't pay and it never stops and you cannot get rid of it even with bankruptcy. That's all there is to know.
