Well, I had to get my cat put to sleep a few weeks ago, and ever since then, I have been miserable. I am so used to seeing him downstairs, that I think that I keep seeing him jogging across the room, or just walking around everytime I come downstairs. And it's so vivid! Then, when I turn back around to look again, nothing is there. My dad says that's it something called "conditioned reasoning." It's like I can feel his presence....... But I think I am just getting really obsessed with him. I don't really think that they'res a possiblility that he's a "ghost" or anything, so you sure wont be picked as the best answer if you say that it is. Please, someone help me get over my obsession, and help explain to me what is going on with my brain! I swear that I can see him but I don't......I miss him sooooooooo much......... I'm just so used to seeing him there.......Please help?

Read these poems; it's OK if they make you cry a little. Get it out of your system; you have not grieved or mourned enough. It's OK, I'm still greiving and it's been 18 years. We never stop loving our little furry friends, it's OK to shed a tear even years after... it's OK, really. Sooner or later you will realize that you must let them go, and let them rest for a while.

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.

Then, you cross the Rainbow Bridge together…

MESSAGE FROM THE BRIDGE

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say,
But first of all, to let you know that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from the Rainbow Bridge. Here I dwell with God above,
Here, there are no more tears of sadness; there is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight,
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you.

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone,
As for your dearest family they'll be here later on.
I need you badly; you are part of My plan,
There's so much we have to do to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things that He wished for me to do,
And foremost on the list was to watch and care for you,
And when you lie in bed at night, the day’s chores put to flight,
God and I are close to you in the middle of the night.

When you think of life on earth and all those loving years,
Because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears,
But do not be afraid to cry, it does relieve the pain,
Remember there could be no flowers, unless there could be some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned,
If I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth in over,
Now, more than ever before my life to you is closer.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb,
But together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too,
That as you give to the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
Then you can say to God at night and "my day was not in vain."
And now I am contented that my life was worthwhile,
Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
Lend a hand to pick him up as on your way you go.
When you are walking down the street and you've got me on your mind,
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go, from your body to be free,
Remember you're not going. You're coming here to me.

It is very difficulti to get over grief for a beloved pet. I had one hearsd a story that cats are allowed to come back to earth after they die. Sometimes people with get a cat that acts just like one they lost in the past, although the cat may not look anything like the other one you use to have. I think of cats as an animal with a tiny soul.Getting a new cat won't replace the one you had, but it might make you feel good to adopt one on the many cats and/or kittens from the SPCA.God rewards thosw who do good deeds.

My wife had a dog (a snauzer) that she loved dearly. He kept running out of the yard and into the street so I knew it would be a matter of time before he was hit by a car, and one day he was hit by a car.
She was, naturally, very upset and nothing was comforting to her. I went to the pound that morning and got a little puppy that was on death row( it was the last day- she was to be put to sleep the very next day) and brought her home.
It took about a week, but she finally warmed up to our little Tina, and now she'd take nothing for her!
I have lost an animal or two myself, and you'll always see them in your mind. because it's wishful thinking, and just wanting them to still be here.
My point is that maybe you could rescue a little kitten from the pound like I did Tina. It won't be the same at first, but you'll get over your lost pet faster, I think, if you can find another pet to give your love to.
Your pet's memory will always be with you, but time will heal your sorrows if you've another to love.My kindest regards and sympathy are extended to you during this sorrowful time.

I am so sorry about your cat.

Personally, I don't think you're seeing or imagining things. I believe our pets check up on us for awhile, to make sure we are ok. After putting our 18 year old cat to sleep, I swear I could hear him snoring at times underneath the headboard of our bed, which was one of his favorite spots. I suppose the strictly logical would tell me it was my imagination, but whatever it is, it takes awhile before the essence or spirit of our beloved pets leaves our presence.

Have you considered getting another cat? A new cat will never take the place of your beloved cat, but not only does it help as a distraction, at first, eventually, a new cat will become loved for its own sake.

Please know that you not only have my sympathy, but my understanding for what you are going through. Pets take a special place in our lives for the short time we are their caretakers.

I did find a website dealing with pet loss. I hope that it helps.

Nicole, I am so sorry for your loss. I have my therapy cat, Ben. I would devastated if I lost him. I do not honest know of a way to console you but to say that time will go on for you. Remember the good times you had with your kitty. I am sure you feel your lost pets' presence, as your relationship must have been very close. One day, perhaps, you may fall in love with another cat again. I honestly wish you good times.

It has been three years now since I had to euthanize my Spookie because he was dying from his cancer.

I don't believe in ghosts either and for a few weeks I would look up and sense that he was there at the door waiting as always for his dinner. This happened three times and no time since.

Today I was working in the garden and I remembered a particular spot where he would spend warm afternoons. He is the only cat I have had who would lie in my arms and look up at me with his wonderful blue eyes.

What has helped me might help you. I miss my cats so much but I cannot have any cats where I am temporarily living. I volunteer at the local no-kill animal shelter. It makes me feel so good when I help all those kitties in need, it's like therapy. I leave each time knowing that I've made a difference and it helps me cope. Maybe volunteering can help you too. I feel for you.

you are grieving a loss. perhaps your cat's spirit is staying close to you. You have to go through the grief. You need to talk, talk, talk about your cat, reminisce, share stories, look at pictures. Remember there was much more to your relationship than his death. focus on the fun and the pleasure. don't let anyone mock you for your very real feelings.

When the time comes, you will be ready for another pet, and you will find each other and need each other.

I've had dozens of cats and many dogs in my ancient life and I do not regret knowing any of them despite the pain I felt when they died.

grow up, be a man. Help your cat by giving it to someone else who has a cat, preferably of the opposite sex. Death is an emotional tme for all mammals and promotes hormones which require sexual release. Part of biology. Obviously ensure the new owner is a fit and proper person.

Cats and dogs are on earth to give us companionship while
we learn to care for creatures who need our help. In my opinion,
a child who has learned how to care for such critters is more
likely to become a good and loving parent when he matures.
What you are probably seeing is your cat dropping by from time to time to visit what was to him a happy home. As your thoughts
are heavy due to his loss he will be more likely checking in to see how you are. Another reason, I believe, is to get us accustomed to the coming and going of loved ones throughout our life span.
Say a prayer of thanks that you were able to share a period of time together and rejoice that, someday, you'll be together again!

wow .. i sure know how you feel.

3 years ago i had to have my 17 year old cat put to sleep. i cried, and cried, and cried and cried until i didn't have any more tears. it was a horribly sad day ... i held her in my arms as she passed.

it took me a VERY long time to get over her ... and i still miss her.

pets become so much a part of our lives .. they are family members. it's hard when they go .. and our grief is very real. it helps to write about your feelings .. in a journal or something. talk to friends ~ talk with someone who will just listen.

here is my favorite poem .... i hope it brings you some comfort. just treat yourself gently and hold the memories close. the pain will start to fade ... but your memory of your cherished friend will always be with you.
