(1) LCPL Pennington is not a "hero" in the same mold as 1LT Pantano or CPT Chontosh. If the Corps feels he should be brought up on charges, then it is incumbent on the Lance and his JAG attorney to answer those charges. If he's guilty, he goes down. If he's innocent, he's exonerated. That's UCMJ.
(2) The Geneva and Hague Conventions govern the just and legitimate application of modern warfare. American troops are not barbarians. If you refuse to hold them to the high moral standards that are represented by the Constitution, then you render their service and the values they fight for meaningless. Any military can become a mass of pillaging, raping, murdering brutes. The American military is the sole example of a military force that not only fights hard and fights well, but brings peace and reconstruction in its wake. Take a look at the Marshall Plan. Take a look at the Berlin Airlift. Take a look at the prosperity of Germany and Japan. When led right and led by true example, American troops stand for a better world, not the sort of Old Testament eye-gouging that seems to please the civilian cheerleader crowd so much.
(3) Senator John McCain is protecting American values. Only someone who was on the receiving end of such brutal treatment from the NVA could understand the full poignancy of watching American troops become the same sort of savages. The Senator deserves full support, just as the Lance deserves to be treated as innocent until proven guilty.
And "Islamo-Fascists" is in no sense a correct term to describe the enemies we are fighting today. Only an imbecile like Michelle Malkin and likeminded fools could take such gross inaccuracy and run with it.

There is no such thing as an Ilsamo Fascist. This is a made up myth to motivate the ignorant. I presume you believe what Bush says. Why is it more important to further stain and darken the reputation of the United States Government by sanctioning torture? Torquemada would be proud of you for going after the heritics. The only real enemies are the ones who think the ends justify the means.

Well the Geneva convention accords were meant to ensure that soldiers get treated in a humane way in the event they are taken prisoner.. In theory if everyone follows the rules it ends out working out to benifit our pow's ... McCain is very much in favor of these rules because of the years he spent as a POW. He was tortured and beaten and treated very badly during his time as a POW.... He knows what it is like and is trying to help our soldiers. little known facts that suprised me when i was in the army learninging about the geneva conventions:
1. Enemy officers must be treated like friendly officers while they are in captivity.. yes you must adress them as sir if you are below their rank
2. Enemy soldiers must be paid during their captivity by the captive country
... unfortunatly not every country is a member of the geneva conventions

Ever heard of the ICT? International criminal tribunal? The world police are going to handcuff you and take you there if you don't follow the Geneva Conventions rules.
I see that the current administration has invented another new word, islamo-fascist.
That only gives the world more room to invent words like americo-fascist.

Because we should be better than the terrorists. We can show honor and mercy, two traits loved by just about any religion's god, while terrorists can only show hatred and false faith. McCain knows what torture and prisoner abuse is like, so he wants to ensure the United States does not become what he hated--governments who agree with terrorists on how to treat people. We should be as far away from terrorists' mind-sets as possible.
Also, honor and mercy are not the same as cowardice or hippie love. We can fight and kill with honor and mercy as long as we are fighting to protect people and not to extend an empire.

Are you serious,, do you have a clue of what Senator McCain lived through??
Ya WTF ! ! ! is wrong with YOU ! ! !
Did you ever consider that those of us that have served in the military hold ourselves to a far higher standard than society ever thought of holding us to.
I have several lifelong friends that served this country from the Hanoi Hilton, and you had better believe that their opinion of the Geneva convention is a lot different than yours.

McCain was a prisoner of war in case you did not know and he was tortured. (Viet Nam era) He feels that if we begin to make up our own rules about how to treat prisoners, that it will subject our troops to the wiles of other governments who are making up their own rules.
