Actreess Judy Garland, who played the character of Dorothy at the age of seventeen in the 1939 MGM classic, "The Wizard of Oz", died of an accidental drug overdose in 1969. Garland had had a lifetime battle with substance addiction and abuse, which started when she was a very young actress. The studio kept her going by "prescribing" uppers and downers through the studio's "physician", and the addiction followed her the rest of her life. Read more about her here:

Dorothy Gale, the character in the book, returned to Kansas and to Auntie Em and Uncle Henry. In the movie, it's clear it was a dream, but in the L. Frank Baum book of the same name, it's not so clear.

Well, if you mean the actress, Judy Garland went on to have a marvelous career.
I don't know what happened to the Dorothy.

a couple of years after she died of a drug over dose, everyone was drugging her to get a few more years of child hood out of her but when she hit puberty they couldnt and she took too much drugs and died
