I would wear my hair high on my head with a tiara. If you leave your hair down with a strapless dress your cutting off your shoulders, collar bone and neck. Definitely put it up. Besides it won't get in your face when your dancing.

The unofficial rule when I was in school was that if your dress had sleeves or thick straps, your hair should go up. If it's strapless, hair down.
I don't know why this was the rule. It doesn't really make sense. If you want to look like cinderella, hair up for sure. I can't keep my hair up with any amount of hair spray, so down is always good for me.

I say this totally depends on whether you have wide fleshy shoulders or not. (i do as i am a swimmer)
The hairdresser that did my hair on the day put all my hair up - i look awful in the photos. (My shoulders looked big and obvious, especially in photos that are just head shots)
When i got married i remembered this lesson and went for half up half down which looked much better for my build.
Hope this helps.

The best hairstyle to wear will be an up-do. Anytime you go strapless, wear your hair up. Then you can wear a nice pearl or necklace to accent your neckline.

if you have sexy shoulders and nice clavicles, then i would go with a total updo. but, if you feel kind of bare on your shoulders, go with a half updo. those are always cute and look better in pictures (because in pictures you can only see the front of your face, and with a updo you can't see how cute it is).

Updo if you have nice shoulders and a slender face. I think half and half would look good no matter what type of face you have.

To look elegant and formal you should sweep your hair up in a french twist and leave some strands down for a better effect. Try putting hair gems in it also or glitter.
