I have five cats and a dog that all sleep on my bed (intermittently) and I've never had tumours. It's a load of rubbish. They were probably going to get them anyway -- lots of people get tumours and lots of people have cats; every now and again, it will turn out to be the same people. You could also believe opening a refrigerator door causes tumours (hey, maybe it does).

Sorry to say....but this is the most ridiculous thing I have EVER heard of. Millions of things cause tumors, cats being the least likely on that list of a million. You just said yourself that it is an old wives tale...meaning it is NOT true! Don't be so naive in the future.

I found absolutely nothing to substantiate tumors and sleeping with cats. Did your friends sleep in a bed? You could just as likely draw the conclusion that sleeping in a bed causes tumors.
I am tumor free, though I have slept with cats all my life. My mother, on the other hand, now sleeps with her cat, though she didn't always do so. She has cancer. My dad died of cancer, but never slept with a cat in his life.
The only article I found is from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, WA. It concerned research about the similarities of certain "foamy" viruses that occur in both humans and animals, such as HIV and feline leukemia. It seems to indicate that if we can understand how the viruses operate in animals, it will better help us to understand them in humans.
My advice is to not worry about sleeping with your cats, if you want to do so. My only other advice is that if you have allergies, you may want to ban your cats, no matter how you love them, from the bedroom.

Good Lord, no!
I'd be covered in tumors by now!!
I have five cats, and they all sleep with me! They lay on me and next to me; one even crawls around under the covers!
This is utter nonsense!
Cats are warm and soft, and sweet, and relaxing to sleep with!
They will do you no harm!
