Two part question: My theme is polk a dots for the nursery. Everything i've been buying is round like accent pieces and lighting fixtures (and the walls are polka dots). I'd like to buy a round crib...but im not sure if that's an impractical purchase VS. the typical shape crib bed? Also...how long before a baby outgrows a crib. And will a baby outgrow a round crib faster? UMMMM.

The baby won't outgrow a round crib any faster than they would a typical rectangular crib. Babies can use cribs for a few years, but it really depends on the baby as to when they need a toddler bed. Some babies may be 3 years old before they start to climb out, and some may be 1 year.
I really wanted a round crib, but as I began to research them, I found that it would be too expensive for me, seeing as I had basically no budget.
I think that the round crib would finish off the polka dot theme very well, and it would look wonderful.
The downside to them is first of all the price, but second, they aren't transitional like many of the typical rectangular cribs are now. Meaning that they can turn from a crib, to a toddler bed, to a full-size bed.
But not all regular cribs are, either. Mine isn't. And my fiance is in love with the idea of buying my little man a race car toddler bed anyway, so if ours was transitional, we wouldn't have used that option anyway.
But if you are able to afford it, why not go for what you really want?

Convertible cribs are great if you want one that grows with your baby. A baby can sleep in the crib until they outgrow it or are climbing out of it. Mine always pulled the climbing trick long before they outgrew the length of the bed.
Round cribs are so unique and can be decorated so beautifully! The downside is that not only are the beds themselves rather expensive, but the bedding can be pricey as well. The upside is that with thoughtful placement, you will have access to your child from every direction!
From time to time there are auctions that feature these cribs at greatly reduced prices. If your heart is set on one, that's always an option.

Sweetie the round does sound like it would make the room complete.A baby can sleep in a crib up to 2 or 3 years old depends on the parent and if u plan to have more than u will use it again and can always safe it for other family members or grand kids.Basically they are all the same size just different shape so they will no out grow one before another.

I LOVE round cribs. However, a baby can not stay in one as long as a standard crib. As the other person said.. bedding is MUCH more expensive.
You are better off going with a convertible crib. One that will get your child through infancy and then turn into a toddler bed and then into a headboard and foot board.
You would get much more use of it that way... BUT if you have the money then I say go for it!!

Babies outgrow cribs at around 1 or so, thats when they can climb out of them. And you will need to purchase a toddler bed. I would suggest getting a crib that converts into a toddler bed, that way you can still use the bed and mattress for a few years. Just get polkadot bedding for the crib, to keep the theme going :)

I agree with what most everyone else has said. If $$ is not an issue go for the round one (I personally think they are beautiful). If $$ is an issue a traditional crib with polka dot bedding will certainly do the trick just as well. Congratulations!!

the baby outgrows a crib at like 3 years old, and i'm sure that it will be jumping out by then. So i think that a circle crib will be fine. Good luck & cute theme!

there are cribs now that can be converted to toddler bed, and then to twin bed, so a child can use till when he's 5 or even more. it's pretty practical, a?. But there's one moment about round cribs: psychologists proved that for babies cribs with no corners are much better. it gives them sort of sense of security, round is better for "psychological health", so to say...
