First, some background.

I recently answered a question from a female concerning her possible pregnancy and her obvious inability to make an adult-style decision. She wanted to get a pregnancy test, but she couldn't get the car keys; her boyfriend was sleeping.

She couldn't figure out what to do.

I answered, among other items, that she should some simple common-sense to figure out her dilemna. Some of my responses provoked a response saying I was too harsh. (No inappropriate language was used) I also responded stating she should use "correct style" English so that her question would be more clearly understood.

Now the question for all respondents.

Is it acceptable for respondents to questions to say exactly what's their opinion, or should their opinions be "sugar-coated" so that nobody's feelings get hurt?

I had always believed "direct answers to direct questions," but yesterday proved me wrong; somebody's feelings were "bent out of shape" by my responses.

I don't think you were too harsh. You should give the answer you feel is appropriate not what the asker wants to hear. And if someone is going to get but hurt over a response then they should not be asking strangers questions on a sight like this.

If people are going to ask a question then they need to be ready for the answer. As far as the correct spelling and grammar, I think that if we are going to answer them we should stick to the question at hand. We don't know what kind of education they have or what their circumstances are. I think being honest and direct with a question is what everyone that asks should expect. But leave the other issues alone.

I always respond exactly the way I feel. That is the whole point of being an individual with our own opinions. If you don't want to hear what other people have to say about something you did, then you shouldn't be asking questions. Don't hold back in fear of someone getting "bent." Someone is always going to be offended, no matter what.

the TRUTH hurts sometimes.

the only time i will sugar-coat anything is if the person 'says' something like ' i'm 13 and having a problem with mom ' . in that case, i take into consideration what i would say to my neice.

but, i CAN SAY that i answer questions like i would face to face.

I always try to answer in the most straight-forward and honest way. If they're just looking for sympathy, then go somewhere else. The truth doesn't have to be pleasant.

I would think she would be more hurt by you referring to someones use of the language.. there are many who post in here, using English as a second language.. you have to learn to be a bit more considerate in that area.

THIS SITE WAS DESIGNED FOR FUN AND OPINIONS. MAYBE YOU WERE PISSED OFF OR IRRATATED ALREADY, HELL I DONT KNOW. BUT WHEN I SEE SOMEONE ASKING QUESTIONS, IF I DONT LIKE THE WAY THEY SPELL WORDS OR EVEN IF I DONT LIKE THE QUESTION, I JUST DONT BOTHER. I COME HERE FOR FUN AND JUST OPINIONS. BECAUSE IM GOING TO THE DOCTOR TOMMORROW. AND IT WASNT ABOUT I COULDNT GET THE KEYS FROM MY BOYFRIEND. HE IS A VERY HARD SLEEPER. BUT LIKE I SAID, YOU DIDNT EVEN ANSWER THE QUESTION I ASKED, PERIOD. YOU JUST CAME IN, BEING RUDE, WHICH IS COOL, BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT KIND OF PERSON YOU ARE. "HARSH DOSE OF REALITY" WHAT THE HELL? IF ANYONE CAN SEE LIKE noogney, THAT YOU JUST SAT THERE AND DISPLAYED YOUR IGNORANCY BY INSULTING ME, THINKING YOURE SMART AND COMICAL. AND LAST TIME I CHECKED, MY PROFESSORS ARE NOT ON THIS SITE GRADING THESE DRAFTS TO GIVE ME A GRADE. IM JUST GON BACK OFF YOU FOR A MINUTE, BECAUSE I DONT REALLY WANT TO GET MURDEROUS ON YOU.YOU KNOW HOW IT IS WITH PEOPLE AND TYPING, YOU ALREADY KNOW IT!!!!! YOU JUST WANT SOME ATTENTION, SO PEOPLE CAN TRY TO SEE SOME TYPE OF SMART, COMIC SIDE TO YOU, WHEN ACTUALLY NOTHING IS THERE.YOU HIDE BEHIND THE SCREEN TO SAY WHAT YOU WANT TO SAY BECAUSE YOU KNOW NO ONE IS GONNA DO ANYTHING TO YOU. HEY AND THAT'S COOL TOO. PEACE

Little point in answering if you aren't going to be straightforward and honest however the same rules apply as they do if talking face to face, try not to offend.

I erased my answer because I read her question and she did not ask what you indicated.
She is not the most mature adult, but she's normal for her age.
